Parents living in India and their children busy with their jobs abroad and not finding time to visit India, is not new to us. There is at least one such case in every housing society. Latest released Marathi film ‘A Dot Com Mom’ is also a story of one such simple middle class mother Sulbhatai( Dr.Meena Nerurkar), from a small town in Maharashtra. Like all other Indian house wives, she too has worked hard to raise her only son Sunil alias Sunny( Sai Gundewar) , who later goes to USA and becomes a millionaire, attaining success with his dot com company. Sunil invites his parents to visit him and his wife to share his success. But, only his beloved mother manages to go to USA, while his father( Vikram Gokhale) prefers to stay back.

Feeling exited with his mother’s arrival, Sunil wants to make her happy, showing her all nearby places during week ends. But the mother is unable to cope up with the lifestyle of USA and gets into trouble on many occasions. Her daughter in law Seema( Apoorva Bhalerao) also cannot bear her mother-in-law’s presence in their house. Finally, instead of staying for 4 months, Subhatai decides to return back to India, only to be recalled again, when the daughter in law needs help, during the time of her delivery. But, this time, the mother in law goes all prepared, finding two months time to change herself.

Marathi Movie ‘Dot Com Mom’

Very cleverly the writer- director has handled the screenplay, to make it interesting with humour filled events. She has also shown the perfect lifestyle of NRI’s, besides showing some unexpected happenings little before interval and in post interval stage. The film is inspiring, as the central character has shown the way to thousands of such mothers in law, to bring in that required change in them, to move with the time and make their children happy.

The selection of artistes, whether Indian or foreigners is perfect. Playing herself as the central character, Dr.Meena Nerurkar has given full justice to her role. Vikram Gokhale as Sunil’s father and Vijay Kadam as shopkeeper are just namesake in this film. Sai Gundewar plays the young handsome bald hero, who not only looks smart and handsome, but has also performed very naturally. In the role of his wife Apoorva Bhalerao is just fine. But, excellent performance comes from popular TV artiste Deepti Lele, who has played an important character in this film. She is so lively, with her foreign accent. But, another versatile TV artiste
Asha Shelar has very limited scope and has been wasted in this film.

Perhaps, this is the first Marathi film shot in USA, besides using proper indoor locations, to give a realistic look to the film. Film’s title is very apt and goes well with the story. Technically, it is a well made film, with suitable music.Excellent cinematography and art direction has also helped to give a polished look to this film. All in all, ‘A Dot Com Mom’ is a sensible thought provoking film.

Rajeshwari Kharat, Hansraj Jagtap

Both of them have been part of national award winning films. While Hansraj Jagtap won national special jury award for best child actor, Rajeshwari Kharat was part of the film ‘Fandry’, which won national award for the film’s director on debut. Though Hansraj had plenty of scope to prove his talent in ‘Dhag’, Rajeshwari didn’t have much to do in ‘Fandry’. But now, both these teenagers have been brought together in a so called different love story, through the film ‘Item Girl’.

Recently, the first teaser of this film has been released on social networking sites and it clearly gives an indication that it has much more than only the love story. After the success of ‘Sairat’, now, Marathi film makers are also paying attention on the subjects of teenagers, on the rural backdrop. And, hence ‘Itemgiri’ is just another example. Produced by Amit Taware, Pradeep Beldare and Santosh kadam, it is directed by Pradeep Tonge and Mangesh Shendge. DOP Vikas Singh, music by P.Shankaran , background music by Rohit Nagbhide are other credits.

Actress Neelakanti Patekar as Bayo Aaji in Marathi serial ‘Goth‘

ज्येष्ठ अभिनेत्री नीलकांती पाटेकर आता छोट्या पडद्यावर पदार्पण करत आहेत. स्टार प्रवाह वाहिनी वरील ‘गोठ ‘ या नव्या मालिकेत त्या ‘बयो आजी’ ही करारी व्यक्तिरेखा साकारताना दिसणार आहेत.

आजही आपल्या समाजात पुरुषसत्ताक संस्कृती असताना या मालिकेतून ‘स्त्रीचे निर्णय तिच्याच हाती ‘ हा विचार मांडण्यात आला आहे. फिल्मफार्म निर्मित या मालिकेचे दिग्दर्शन विघ्नेश कांबळे करत आहेत. कथानकाला असलेली तळकोकणाची पार्श्वभूमी, तिथली संस्कृती, संस्थानिक घराण्यांचा प्रभाव, बदलते कोकणी जनमानस आणि युवापिढी हे या मालिकेचं वेगळेपण ठरणार आहे.

नीलकांती पाटेकर यांनी पूर्वी दोन टीव्ही मालिकांची निर्मिती केली. चित्रपट, रंगभूमीवर काम केलं. मात्र ‘गोठ ‘ ही त्यांची अभिनेत्री म्हणून पहिलीच मालिका आहे. “दर तीन चार महिन्यांनी मला मालिका करण्याबाबत विचारणा व्हायची. मात्र, एकही भूमिका मला पसंत पडली नाही. टीआरपीच्या गणितानुसार व्यक्तिरेखा बदलणं मला पटत नाही. मला रोबोसारखं काम करायचं नव्हतं. त्यामुळे चांगली भूमिका ही माझी मुख्य गरज होती. ‘गोठ ‘ या मालिकेसाठी विचारणा झाली. भूमिका संवेदनशील होती. कथानक समजून घेतल्यावर आणि दिग्दर्शकाशी बोलल्यावर काहीतरी वेगळं करण्याची ही संधी वाटल्यानं ही मालिका स्वीकारली,”असं त्यांनी सांगितलं.

“या व्यक्तिरेखेला अनेक पैलू आहेत. मालिकेतली प्रत्येक व्यक्तिरेखा वेगळ्या पद्धतीनं लिहिली आहे. सिनेमॅटिक पद्धतीनं मालिका होणं हे खूप वेगळं आहे. या मालिकेच्या संपूर्ण टीमला नेमकं काय करायचं हे माहीत आहे. त्यामुळे कथानक खूप वेगळ्या पद्धतीनं समोर येणार आहे. या मालिकेत काम करताना मला वेगळे काम केल्याचे समाधान मिळते आहे. अशी वेगळ्या पद्धतीची मालिका केल्याबद्दल स्टार प्रवाहचं कौतुक करावंसं वाटतं. प्रेक्षकांनाही ही मालिका नक्की आवडेल,” असं त्यांनी आवर्जून सांगितलं.

Marathi movie ‘Raaiba’

World famous author Mario Puzo’s  crime novel ‘The Godfather‘ which was published in 1969 became so popular that it inspired 1972 Hollywood  film with the same name, followed by sequel few years later. This novel also inspired 80 film makers from all over the world to make films in their language on this subject.

‘The Godfather’ is a famous crime novel written by Italian American author Mario Puzo, originally published in 1969. It details the story of a fictional Mafia family based in New York City, headed by Don Vito Corleone  and also provides the back story of Vito Corleone from early childhood to adulthood. In Hindi, we have seen films like ‘Dharmatma‘ , ‘Dayavan‘ and many other crime based films on underworld, inspired by this novel.

Now, Marathi film maker Milind Arun Kavde, who has made films like ‘Yedyanchi Jatra‘, ‘Four Idiots‘,’Just Gammat‘, ‘Shinma‘ and ‘1234‘ has accepted the challenge of making a Marathi film titled ‘Raaiba‘ on this subject. Having noticed the success of films like ‘Rege‘ and ‘Dagadi Chawl‘, it is not surprising that a film based a world famous crime novel is being made. According to Milind Kavde, he was in search of a script to make a film on this subject. And, he felt that the subject of Godfather was more interesting. He has however made suitable changes to suit the subject to Marathi audience. This will be the  story of a farmer’s son, who later becomes a Don. The film will star 35 well known artistes from Marathi film industry and it will be a song based film.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh at Marathi quiz show ‘Vikta Ka Uttar’

After having a successful stint in Bollywood , actor Riteish Deshmukh made his debut in Marathi films as a producer and actor two years ago. But now, Riteish is making his small screen debut on Star Pravah Marathi channel in the role of a show anchor through a reality Quiz show ‘Vikta Ka Uttar‘. On Monday afternoon Riteish met the media persons in a unique way.

Before addressing the press conference, he actually played a mock show for them, involving all of them in this show. He picked up three of them as players for questioning and the rest of them played the traders, in case the players needed their help. The trader selected for help by the player, had to bargain for a price to offer the correct answer. It was an entertaining show with a difference.

Speaking to the media after this mock show, Riteish Deshmukh admitted that he was more than happy to receive this offer. He also revealed that he had really worked hard to get the right Marathi accent, to present this programme in the capacity of an anchor. “I was completely sold to the concept of this show,” he said. “Till now, we have shot 25 episodes and it was a learning process for me, though script was provided by four talented writers“. Riteish was all praise for Hrishikesh Joshi, writer and actor, who was present on this occasion. “Besides using his writing skills, we also thought of involving him in this show and that’s how, you will find him entering towards the end of every episode in different get ups,” added Riteish.

All in all, this reality show sounds interesting, as participants from different segments in Maharashtra are part of this show, trying their luck to win cash prizes. The show is all set to go on air from 7^th October 2016 on Star Pravah channel .

Well Known actress Vandana Gupte and singer Rani Verma both daughters of doyen of Hindustani classical music Late Manik Verma have come together to produce their first Marathi film ‘Family Katta‘ under the banner of ‘Sister Concern Entertainment‘. The film is all set to release on 7^th October 2016 and the sisters are making all efforts to market their film, so as to reach out to maximum people. During the last week, both were busy promoting their film visiting all the three important media houses like television, Radio and newspapers. And, they received very good response.

Though their film has presently booked 120 screens all over Maharashtra, there is more demand coming from Pune theatres. ‘Family Katta‘ is releasing simultaneously with another big banner Marathi film ‘Jaundya Na Balasaheb‘; but, this is not new to Marathi cinema. In the past, many good films have been released simultaneously and the Marathi audience have welcomed both the films. What is important is the ‘word of mouth’ publicity, which is noticed in the second week, after the film is released. ‘Family Katta‘ being a family social is banking on family audience and the sisters Vandana Gupte and Rani Verma look confident about their creation. “Ours is not a traditional family package, but there is something more, which the Marathi audience would appreciate,” said the sisters while speaking about their film, during the press show.

‘Family Katta‘ has a big star cast comprising of big names like Dilip Prabhavalkar, Vandana Gupte herself, Kiran Karmarkar, Pratiksha Lonkar, Sachin Deshpande, Sulekha Talwalkar, Sanjay Khapre, Gauri Nalawade, Alok Rajwade, Sai Tamhankar and late Adesh Shrivastav . The film is based on Marathi play ‘Celebration‘ written by Prasahant Dalvi and is directed by the same director Chandrakant Kulkarni.

Very often we have seen Marathi film makers influenced by the scripts of popular Marathi dramas. Latest released Marathi film ‘Family Katta‘ is no exception. The film is based on Prashant Dalvi written and Chandrakant Kulkarni directed Marathi play ‘Celebration‘ .With no changes in the script and retaining the same director, Vandana Gupte and her sister Rani Verma under the banner of their ‘Sister Concern Productions‘ have made this multi starrer film, which is an emotion filled family drama.

Dilip Prabhavalkar, Vandana Gupte, Sai Tamhankar, Prateeksha Lonkar & others in Marathi movie ‘Family Katta’

The film begins with an old couple Mr. & Ms. Sabnis (Dilip Prabhavalkar & Vandana Gupte) based in Pune, busy with preparations to celebrate their 50^th Wedding anniversary .This time, the third generation of Sabnis family comprising of Grand daughter ( Gauri Nalavade) a TV actress and her foreign based cousin ( Alok Rajwade) more keen on meeting their grandparents and celebrate the occasion. But for the two sons of Sabnis couple (Kiran Karmarkar & Sachin Deshpande) and their daughters in law ( Prateeksha Lonkar & Sulekha Talwalkar) it is just an occasion for a family get together. The third son of Sanis couple ( Sanjay Khapre) who is into social work and living in a village, is also on his way, to attend this function. The only daughter of Sabnis family ( Sai Tamhankar) , who marries against her father’s wish, an elderly person , after her divorce, is also on her way with her husband ( Adesh Shrivastav) to meet her parents after six years.

The film’s screenplay goes on well in the first half, with light humor arising out of the old couple’s arguments over small issues in their day to day life. But, little before the arrival of the family members, we notice a sudden twist in the screenplay. Thereafter, the film moves on with emotion filled happenings that follow in the second half, keeping the audience guessing, as to what would happen next. The film concludes well, with a timely social message.

‘Family Katta‘ is a well presented film, with wonderful performances coming from the entire team comprising of Dilip Prabhavalkar, Vandana Gupte, Kiran Karmarkar, Prateeksha Lonkar, Sachin Deshpande, Sulekha Talwalkar, Sanjay Khapre, Gauri Nalawade, Alok Rajwade, Sai Tamhankar & Adesh Shrivastav. They have shown perfect understanding and proper team work in every scene in this film. The jealousy between the two daughters in law, is cleverly shown through few humor filled scenes, while their young children are shown with a liberal attitude. Music isn’t much important in this film, except for background music. Good editing work by Jayant Jathar and finest cinematography by Mahesh Limaye, makes this film more appealing. Dialogues by Prashant Dalvi are also well written. But, the director hasn’t taken much cinematic liberties to present this original drama, perhaps cutting on the budget. But, his direction is good.

‘Family Katta‘ is the film for entire family and hence likely to be appreciated by all.

Actor Vikram Gokhale at release of first Marathi EDM song album

Power Bridge Entertainment Asia (P) Ltd have released their Indo China Venture’s first Marathi EDM song recently, at the hands of veteran Marathi actor Vikram Gokhale. Present on the occasion were Marathi Chitrapat mahamandal President Meghraj Bhosale, Producers Anjela, Tejas Bhalerao, Rajaram Kore of HR Zoom, director Rahul Zende , actor-singer Vaibhav Londhe , actress Saisha Pathak and others.

Speaking on the occasion chief guest Mr. Vikram Gokhale appreciated the efforts of this Indo China Company. He also appealed to them to highlight Indo China friendship through the films to be produced by them. He also emphasized the importance of songs and music in such films and added that the culture of both the countries was almost the same and will help both the countries to build good relations with each other.

Swapnil Joshi at Kon Hoeel Marathi Corerdpati Season 3

Swwapnil Joshi was at the top of popularity chart among the Marathi artistes, after his serial ‘Eka Lagnachi Doosari Goshta‘ was aired four years ago. Prior to that he had already been part of Hindi and Marathi television.

As far as his career in films is concerned, he received good response for his films ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai‘( 2010),  ‘Duniyadari‘(2013), ‘Mangalashtaka Once More‘(2013), ‘Mitwa‘(2015) and ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai-2‘(2015). But, at the same time, his films ‘Pyarwali Love Story‘, ‘Welcome Zindagi‘, ‘Tu Hi Re‘ and ‘Lal Ishq‘ didn’t do well during past two years. In the meanwhile, Swwapnil had also switched over to Marathi stage, playing the lead role in ‘Get Well Soon‘, which also received good audience response . But, that was not enough for him to stay on top of the popularity among the Marathi artistes. And, who doesn’t want to remain popular ?

Perhaps, realizing this, Swwapnil must have decided to take up this good offer of show host of a big reality show from a big production house, ‘Kon Hoeel Marathi Crorepati‘ on Colors Marathi. And, he seems to have taken a wise decision, as this Quiz show has been receiving very good response with Swwapnil Joshi making every pair of participant very comfortable in his presence. In short, his return to small screen, is helping him to regain his popularity. Music launch of Marathi movie ‘Valan’

Looking at the way the Marathi film industry is moving, many Bollywood personalities have already stepped in to produce Marathi films. Now, producers Suman Patel and Anil Dube under their banner of Mudra Entertainment Pvt.Ltd. recently launched their new Marathi film ‘Valan‘, with the recording of a song at M square Studios, Goregaon, in the voice of Janhavi Prabhu Arora, on the music of Nitin Hiravkar.

Not much is known about the story of ‘Valan‘ film, but the film is set on the backdrop of college happenings which are so important in bringing the changes in the lives of youngsters, which could be good or bad. It is for the students to accept what is good for them. According to the producers, they will be showing the changing path in the lives of these students, in order to create awareness among such students. They have also claimed that the story of this film will be different from what has been presented by other films so far.

Directed by Shiva Tripathi, the film stars Mohan Joshi, Varsha Usgaonkar, Ruturaj Phadke, Pankaj Vishnu, Jaimini Rajkanojia in important roles. Kumar Bhagat will handle the camera work.

Bhushan Pradhan and Sanskruti Balgude in Marathi movie ‘Nivdung‘

The hit pair of small screen Bhushan Pradhan and Sanskruti Balgude, who entertained home viewers through their serial ‘Pinjara‘, will now be seen together in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Nivdung‘, which is also based on a social subject on today’s youth. The film is all set to release on 21^st October 2016. Sara Shravan, who was also part of their popular serial ‘Pinjara‘, will also be seen along with them, in equally important role.

Made under the banner of Meena Shameem Films has been produced and directed by Munnawar Shameem Bhagat and also stars Astad Kale ( ‘Saraswati‘ serial fame), Prajakta Dighe and Shekhar Phadke. The film has been shot been shot extensively at the real locations of Kakdi near Shirdi. While tackling the serious subject of drought, director Munnawar Bhagat has also interspersed the film with a love story . Megha Sampat has choreographed three different numbers in the film.

Till now, we have seen many Hindi films on betting in cricket and how some youngsters are lured to this biggest gambling racket, which is spreading across the country. Latest released Marathi film ‘Ghantaa‘ is also based on this subject with three youngsters Umesh Vaidya( Saksham Kulkarni), Raj Bhosale( Amey Wagh) and Angad Mohite( Aroh Velankar) getting trapped into this racket oraganised by Chintya ( Kishore Kadam) a local criminal.

The film begins with a wrist watch containing mini diamonds delivered through courier to a local criminal turned politician Dighya Bhai( Pushkar Shrotri) .This parcel is delivered by default to a company owned by Sanjay Hegde ( Murli Sharma) a former suspended Police officer involved in encounters with criminals. Angad whose girlfriend Anagha( Shivani Surve) works for Sanjay Hegde’s company , visits this company with his two friends, to convince her over their break up. But, three of them encounter eccentric Sanjay Hegde. Dighyabhai’s men attack Sanjay Hegde to get their diamonds back, but Sanjay is injured, while Dighyabhai’s people are also killed in cross firing by the former sharp shooter.

Amey steals Sanjay’s watch, to get some money, but when the watch breaks, when Angad snatches it, while asking him to return and the tiny diamonds spill over. Amey takes them to his girl friend Komal Bhabhi( Anuja Sathe) , with whom he sleeps, while her Diamond merchant husband is away. She in turn calls an expert known to her, to valuates the diamonds @Rs. 10 lakh each. To sell the diamonds, he calls Dighyabhai, who sends his deputy for the deal. And, the youngsters are once again in trouble. The film concludes with not so impressive climax.

With so many characters, with some more played by renowned artistes like Viju Khote, Kanchan Pagare, Kishore Chougule, Abhijit Chavan, Arun kadam, late Razzak Khan and few others , the film has a big crowd, with almost no scope given to good artistes like Viju Khote, Abhijit Chavan and late Razzak Khan . The first half of the film is not at all impressive and fails to pick up, till the interval. In the post interval stage, there are few interesting moments, but they are all inspired by some Bollywood films. Some vulgar double meaning dialogues have been used to generate humour; but the film fails to take a firm grip on screenplay. The director has tried some animated and special effects even in one song picturised on three lead artistes, so as to be different from others, but that’s not enough to present a good package. Music is also just average.

The three lead artistes Amey, Saksham and Aroh have played their respective roles convincingly. Anuja has played a bold character for a change. Pushkar Shrotri is very much at ease playing a typical politician with criminal background, but Murli Sharma is more impressive. He seemsto have improvised his Marathi with his fluent and confident looking dialogue delivery. Some good comedy comes from a TV Marathi artiste playing the Gujarathi character, who is assistant of Pushkar Shrotri. Surprisingly, his name does not appear in the credit list provided by the makers of this film.

All in all, ‘Ghantaa‘ has turned out to be neither a family entertainer, nor a sensible film to fit into quality Marathi film. All that it offers is a casual adult comedy .

Marathi movie ‘Fugay’

Swapna Waghmare Joshi is back again as a director. This time she is presenting a so called unique romantic backstory,’Fugay‘. For the first time Swwapnil Joshi, the favourite actor of the director, will be seen with Subodh Bhave in this film. Recently, the teaser poster of this film was launched digitally which quickly received good response from the fans of this duo.

Presented by Inder Raj Kapoor and produced by Arjun Singgh Baran, Kartik Nishandar and Anuradha Joshi under the banners STV Networks, GSEAMS and MAAY Productions the film has raised a lot of curiosity about the interchanging of surnames by the lead actors on the digital poster. There is a possibility that these could be their character names in the film ‘Fugay‘. One way, this is a good way of promoting the film and raising curiosity among the prospective audience.
