Films on the backdrop of political situation in Maharashtra, are not new to Marathi film lovers. In the past, films like ‘Samna‘, ‘Sarkarnama‘, ‘Made In China‘ invited attention of many film lovers, for presenting the political situation especially in Maharashtra very realistically. However, in the recent past, none of the film makers could present their films on this subject effectively, so as to hold the film goers to their seats from start to finish. Some film makers did attempt political satire, to entertain the audience.

Latest released Marathi film ‘Nagpur Adhiveshan- Ek Sahal‘ also presents a light comedy, on the backdrop of Winter session of Maharashtra legislature, held every year in the orange city. Produced by Anil Keshavrao Jalamkar and directed by Nilesh Raosaheb Jalamkar this film presents the effect of this session on the officials of State Government department housed there. The film focuses on all such employees busy in meeting the demands of the visiting elected representatives, through corrupt practices. Through different characters, the film tries to show the attitude of each one of them, engaged in ‘give and take’ business.

Ajinkya Deo in Marathi film ‘Nagpur Adhiveshan Ek Sahal’

The film begins with a leader of the opposition Prataprao ( Ajinkya Deo) planning a cycle march from his village to Nagpur,to show his strength to gain political mileage; but faces opposition from a young protagonist Aju ( Amol Tale) from his village. Somehow, he manages to convince him to accompany him along with his followers. However, on reaching Nagpur, Prataprao plays his political game with the help of his local Political worker Waghmare ( Bharat Ganeshpure ) based in Nagpur , who seeks help of a clerk from Government office Mr. Solanke ( Makarand Anaspure ) and his team.

The film does not pass any strong social message, but has tried to show the excitement amongst the leaders attending the sessions , who are in a picnic mood instead of discussing the problems faced by the people. All these events have been picturised to generate some humour. However, the film’s screenplay fails to pick up till interval. Even after interval, there are not many interesting happenings, giving it a look of a routine political satire. It is only towards the climax, the screenplay presents some hilarious moments. The intention of writer-director has been good while presenting this subject, but he has not been able to make it gripping. In an attempt to offer scope to every important actor in this film, he has lost the track.

In the beginning of the film, you are under the impression that Ajinkya Deo is the hero of this film. Then, the focus is shifted on Amol Tale and soon you find Makarand Anaspure and Bharat Ganeshpure getting the attention. But, there is also time given to young Sankarshan Karhade, who finds his space to romance with Sneha Chavan. Then, there are other artistes like Mohan Joshi, Chetan Dalvi, Satish Phadke, Deepali Jagtap and Vinit Bhonde , who find their share as supporting artistes. All of them have given good performances, with Mohan Joshi attempting something different. The film’s music is not very impressive, as there are two conventional style songs, but the film’s cinematography is good, capturing some outdoor locations of Nagpur skillfully.

All in all, ‘Nagpur Adhiveshan Ek Sahal‘ presents a routine political satire and is a timely release as the winter session of State legislature is going on in Nagpur.

More and more non Marathi producers are making their entry into Marathi film making. And the latest example is film ‘Karaar’. This film is produced by Poonam Silvia and Neelam Silvia, presented by Paresh Dave and directed by ‘Premacha Jholjhal’ fame Manoj Kotian. Three popular stars of Marathi film industry, namely Subodh Bhave, Kranti Redkar and Urmila Kanetkar Kothare are playing lead roles in this film, with newcomer Aarti More.

On Friday evening, the makers of this film released the music of this film, in presence of music directors Vijay Gavande and Paresh Shah. However, the first look and song videos of this film could not be shown, due to some technical problem. Kranti Redkar was the first to arrive, followed by newcomer Aarti More. But, as usual Subodh Bhave arrived almost 75 minutes late beyond scheduled time. Later, the three big stars interacted with media, praising each other. It is for the first time Subodh, Kranti and Urmila are working together, but they have worked in pairs separately. Subodh has recently worked with Kranti in ‘Kiran Kulkarni V/s Kiran Kulkarni‘, Urmila has worked under the direction of Kranti , while Urmila has worked with Subodh in the past.

Subodh Bhave, Karaar Movie

Director Manoj Kotian explained how he selected the artistes, after he was impressed with the story written by Sanjay Jagtap. He spoke in fluent Marathi, which was appreciated by all. After, Manoj spoke about his team, it was the turn of artistes. But, none of them spoke about the film’s story and their characters, as they were not allowed to reveal the story. Instead they kept on showering praise on each other, including the director and tried to explain how important was ‘agreement’ among the family members and how important was bonding amongst  family members.

The only clue given by the director was that it will be a family film with a social commitment. This film’s screenplay and dialogues are penned by Hemant Edlabadkar and the film will be released in January 2017.

Actress Titeeksha Tawde

Every artiste feels something special about a place, during his or her day to day schedule. Actress Titeeksha Tawde , who plays the title role of Saraswati in the ongoing TV serial on Colors channel has special attachment to her make up room. While speaking to Marathi Movie World recently, she expressed her feelings about this place, which is so important in her life.

“All the artistes like me are spending 12 hours of the day on the sets, while shooting. It is almost like their second home. They develop a serial relationship with their co artistes, director, make up artistes and others around. Most of their time during the shooting schedule i.e from morning till pack up, they spend in the make up room. And hence, my make up room is a very special place for me,” said Titiksha.

Titeeksha Tawde has painted this room, as per her choice. She treats this place as her own. On the wall of this room, there is a beautiful painting of a fairy and there is a suitable quote ‘Keep on dreaming’ appearing with it. This is Titeeksha’s world. It may be recalled that in the same serial Titeeksha Tawde has taken some lessons from her co artistes. Vandi has cautioned her to ‘Be patient’, while Sara has given her a line ‘Give respect and take respect’.

Sonali Anand Khare, Shahrukh Khan and Mukta Barve & others, Marathi film ‘Hrudayantar‘

Renowned Bollywood dress designer Vikram Phadnis is now turning into a Producer. Recently, in association with Purvesh Sarnaik, he launched his own Marathi film ‘Hrudayantar‘ in presence of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan, who as a chief guest, gave the clap during the launch of this film. The film stars Subodh Bhave, Mukta Barve and Sonali Anand Khare in lead roles.

Besides Shahrukh Khan the other celebrities present during this event were, director Duo Abbas Mastan, Vipul Shah, Sanjay Gupta, Sohail Khan, Athiya Shetty, Ritesh Sidhwani, Sanjay Kapoor, Baba Siddique, Kiyara Advani, Neel Nitin Mukesh, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, & Anu Diwan.

Speaking on the occasion, Shahrukh Khan wished a grand success for this first production of Vikram Phadnis and added that he was capable of producing even a Hindi film.

Vikram Phadnis while speaking about this film said that being a Maharashtrian , he felt that it was more convenient for him to produce a Marathi film first. “Luckily, I had a good script, which was most suited to artistes like Subodh Bhave and Mukta Barve“.

Actress Rucha Inamdar

Today there are many Marathi actresses, who are waiting for their turn to work with Marathi’s superstar Swwapnil Joshi. But, not all of them are lucky. Barring few like Mukta Barve, Sai Tamhankar, Urmila Kanitkar, Amruta Khanvilkar, Prarthana Behere & Sonalee Kulkarni there are others, who are in the waiting. But, what if a newcomer like Rucha Inamdar gets a chance to work with him in a forthcoming Marathi film ? Obviously, the model turned actress will be delighted.

Marathi Movie World experienced the excitement and happiness on her face, during the launch of her debut Marathi film ‘Bhikari‘ recently at a reputed hotel in Mumbai. Rucha Inamdar was in seventh heaven that evening, as Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in the capacity of chief guest, gave the clap of her film. Another popular young Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff also shared the dais standing on one side, while her hero Swwapnil Joshi was there on the other side.

Speaking to Marathi Movie World after the function, Rucha Inamdar admitted that it was the most memorable moment in her life, though she had worked earlier in two film projects, namely ‘Children of War‘ (2014 film) and ‘Under the Same Sun‘ ( 2015) film. She also appeared in a small role in multi starrer film ‘Ventilator‘. Rucha had also done a TV commercial for VIP Skybags with John Abraham. When asked, as to how she was selected for this role, she said, “Actually, Rohan Mapuskar had taken my audition for a previous project. So, when director Ganesh Acharya was looking for female lead opposite Swwapnil Joshi in this film, he suggested my name and that’s how I was selected.”

Shooting of this film will begin shortly and is likely to complete by February 2017. So, next year we have a new actress in Marathi films. Luckily for her, she has found a good script and top hero of Marathi to start with. Now, it remains to be seen, whether Rucha Inamdar creates her magic in Marathi film industry? Jagannath Nivangune in Marathi movie ‘Copy‘

Now days, new Marathi film makers are preferring to shoot their films at real locations. And, this is helping to take Marathi cinema to the world level. Forthcoming Marathi film ‘Copy‘ produced by Ganesh Ramchandra Patil and directed by Hemant Dhabade & Dayasagar Wankhede is presently being shot in Kasu village in Pen, which is close to Mumbai but is a typical village. Having completed the first schedule of shooting, the makers are now busy completing the second schedule.

However, the story of this film is set on the backdrop of corrupt practices existing in education system, at such places. According to the makers of this film, the village shown in the film, represents all such schools spread across India at village level. Popular comedian Anshuman Vichare is playing the role of a bearded teacher with high moral standards in this film, for a change. Another character actor  (‘Lakshya‘ Serial fame) Jagannath Nivangune, who has been typecast as a police officer, also gets an opportunity to play the role of a school teacher.

Besides Anshuman Vichare and Jagannath Nivangune, the other co artistes of this film are, Kamlesh Sawant, Milind Shinde, Vipul Salunkhe, Anil Nagarkar, Rahul Belapurkar, Ashutosh Wadkar, Poonam Rane, Saurabh Surtar, Pravin Kapde, Ravi Virkar, Shraddha Sawant and others. Camera by Santeneo Trazio and music by Rohan-Rohan are the other credits of the film.

Ulka Gupta Actress

After Bollywood actresses like Sonali Bendre, Urmila Matondkar, Tisca Chopra, Gurleen Chopra, Huma Khan made their debut in Marathi, few Hindi television actresses like Navni Parihar, Sulagna Panigrahi, also performed in Marathi films. Now, one more Hindi television actress Ulka Gupta, who played little Laxmibai in the serial ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’, will be making her debut in Marathi films. Along with her newcomer Ganesh Tovar will also be making his debut in Marathi.

Ulka is playing lead role in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Odh’- The Attraction’ produced by S.R.Tovar and directed by Dinesh Thakur. The story of this film revolves around strong friendship existing between a boy and a girl of same age. At present the shooting of this film is going on at Latur, Tuzapur and Takviki in Maharashtra. Ulka who has also worked in south Indian films, is well conversant with Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and English languages. Now, she is taking lessons in Marathi, for acquiring proficiency of this language too.

The film’s story and screenplay is by director Dinesh Thakur, while music is by Pravin Kunvar and cinematography by Ravikant Reddy. The other artistes of this film are Mohan Joshi( who plays Ulka’s father in this film), Bhau kadam, Bharat Ganeshpure, Shashikant ketkar and Jaywant Bhalekar.

Mr.Ram Naik, Mr. Kiran Shantaram, Govind Nihalani & others, Third Eye Asian Film Festival

The 15^th Third Eye Asian Film festival was opened on Thursday 15^th December, with the opening ceremony at the hands of Mr. Ram Naik, Governor of U.P. On this inaugural day, well known film maker Govind Nihalani was felicitated with the prestigious Film Culture Award, which was presented to him by chief guest Mr. Ram Naik. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Govind Nihalani stressed the need of producing films connected with Indian soil. ” We should be proud of our own culture and see to it that our films go worldwide,” he said.

Chief guest Mr. Ram Naik praised the hard work put in by Mr. Sudheer Nandgaonkar for organizing this festival every year. Present on this occasion were Mr. Kiran Shantaram, president of the organizing committee, Jury member of short film section Ramesh Talwar and others. This seven day festival will be held upto 22^nd December, when films from countries like Iran, Nepal, Bangladesh, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon will be screened. There is a separate section for Marathi films in this festival, besides competition for short films.

Marathi KBC Quiz programme on Colors channel has so far presented many Marathi celebrities, who have contributed their winning amount to the charities. Now, on 28^th December 2016 the home viewers of this channel will witness renowned Bollywood film maker and choreographer Farah Khan. In the Marathi KBC programme Farah Khan will donate the amount won by her to Jai Vakil Foundation. In this special episode the viewers will witness Farah Khan enjoying every moment in the company of Swwapnil Joshi, besides teaching him few dance steps, while fulfilling his wish of dancing with her. She also shared some emotion filled moments in her life. Being a food lover, she also admitted that she loves to carry food for others on the sets, while shooting.

Actor Viju Khote Birthday

Veteran Hindi and Marathi film actor Viju Khote celebrated his 75th birthday with his family members.  Born on 17th December 1941, Viju Khote has worked as character actor in more than 300 films in his acting career, which began with a Marathi film ‘Ya Malak’ in 1964. Since then, he has been performing character roles non stop for the past 52 years.

Younger brother of popular veteran actress Shubha Khote and son of stage actor Nandu Khote, Viju Khote became popular after the release of super hit film ‘Sholay’ in which he played Kalia, the close associate of villain Gabbar played Amjad Khan. Recently, we saw him in the Marathi film ‘Ventilator’. With his helpful nature Viju Khote has many admirers. He was also chief guest of Marathi Movie World award function last year. Wishing him a very happy birthday.

Actor Subodh Bhave in Marathi Film ‘Fugay’ & ‘Karaar’

After attaining success through films like ‘Lokmanya’ and ‘Katyar Kaljaat Ghusali’ in 2015, Subodh Bhave was not in news, though two of his films, ‘Bandh Nylonche’ and ‘Kiran Kulkarni v/s Kiran Kulkarni’ were released during 2016. Both these films didn’t do well. But now, Subodh has two successive releases in the form of ‘Fugay‘ opposite Swwapnil Joshi for the first time and ‘Karaar‘ opposite Urmila Kanetkar Kothare and Kranti Redkar. Interestingly, both  these films have different  subjects.

Recently, during the music launch of his film, ‘Karaar’ Subodh made it very clear that he enjoyed working with his co stars who give their 100%. Interestingly, Subodh has also been signed by Bollywood dress designer Vikram Phadnis for his debut Marathi film ‘Hrudayantar’ and that too opposite Mukta Barve, which itself is a big news. During the muhurat of this film held recently, Bollywood superstar had come to give the clap. Having won best actor awards in the past, these forthcoming three films are considered to be most important for Subodh.

Urmila Kanitkar-Kothare as Vithabai in Marathi movie ‘Vitha‘

There was a time when Tamasha Empress Vithabai Narayangaonkar ruled over the hearts of tamasha lovers in Maharashtra. Vithabai was responsible in getting government and public recognition for ‘Tamasha‘ the folk art of Maharashtra, thereby becoming the first female artist to win the president’s award for this art. However, in spite of earning immense popularity, prestige, honour and money, she had only faced disappointments during the last stages of her life.

Now, to bring the extraordinary life of the Vithabai Narayangaonkar, to the general public, a film ‘Vitha‘ based on her life, will soon hit the screens. Namrata Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, in collaboration with another film production company Aapla Picture has produced this film. Recently, the film’s shooting was completed and now the technical and post production work is in progress. The film ‘Vitha‘  is directed by Pundalik Dhumal.

Popular talented actress Urmila Kanitkar-Kothare, plays the title role of Vithabai Narayangaonkar, while Upendra Limaye will be playing a very important role. The screenplay and dialogues of ‘Vitha‘ are written by Pundalik Dhumal and Shantanu Rode. Sanjay Jadhav and Devendra Golatkar are the cinematographers, while art director is Mahesh Salgaonkar and music is by Ajit Parab, Sameer Mhatre and Rohit Nagbhide. The film will be released during the coming new year.

Aditi Dravid, Supriya Pathare and Sainkeet Kamat in Marathi play ‘Hya Gojirvanya Gharaat‘

Experimental and commercial Marathi plays are doing extremely well now days, with good audience response. No wonder more and more Television and film artistes are preferring this medium to reach out to drama lovers. One such play ‘Hya Gojirvanya Gharaat‘ is all set to present its inaugural show on 27^th December 2016. Produced by Ved Productions and presented by Muktayan, the play is produced by Gopal Algeri and Tanuja Kulkarni and directed by Ankur Kakatkar.

‘Hya Gojirvanya Gharaat’ play has three popular TV stars in the lead role. Manisha Kelkar and Arbaaz Khan

Renowned glamorous Marathi film actress Manisha Kelkar who began her acting career with Marathi film ‘Bhola Shankar‘, later performed in Marathi films like ‘Hyancha Kaahi Nem Nahi‘, ‘Ghartyasathi Sara Kahi‘, ‘Mission Possible‘, ‘Majha Mee‘ and ‘Chandrakor‘ besides few Hindi films, will now play a dashing lady police officer in new Bollywood film, title of which has not been announced yet. Manisha Kelkar who plays the character of Inspector Shalini Patil has been casted opposite Arbaaz Khan in this film produced by Pradeep Rangawani and directed by Shubhrato Paul.

Very excited about this new offer, Manisha Kelkar said, “After hearing the script of this film, I felt that my knowledge of Martial arts will be very useful for this role. In this film, myself and Arbaaz are investigating a murder case, which leads to a drama; and the film’s action filled screenplay revolves around it. Arbaaz has also praised my role, calling me ‘Marathi Mulgi’. He is himself playing Inspector Lokhande. Before this film, I had done two hindi films, namely ‘Bandook’ and ‘Lottery’.”
