Rucha Apte, Sankarshan Karhade, Prashant Damle, Shubhangi Gokhale and Chandrakant Kulkarni in Sakhar Khallela Manus Play

Lifestyle ailments are on the rise in India and diabetes is one of them. This so called lifestyle ailment is on the rise day by day with more than 62 million diabetic individuals currently diagnosed with this disease in our country. No wonder, some people call India as the diabetes capital of the world. Perhaps, looking at these figures, writer Vidyasagar Adhyapak thought of a good script for a Marathi drama and that’s how new Marathi play ‘Sakhar Khallela Manus‘ came on the stage. Even otherwise, our Marathi playwrights always come up with ‘out of the world’ subjects in the past and this timely subject presented through this play, is one of them.

‘Sakhar Khallela Manus’ presents Vilas Deshpande ( Prashant Damle ) as an Insurance Company Manager, who leaves his secured insurance company job and joins a private insurance company, only for good money. But, in the race of achieving monthly targets, he is always under stress and takes to heavy drinking and smoking during weekly parties. This results in detection of type 2 diabetes, with rise in sugar level in the blood. His wife Madhavi (Shubhangi Gokhale) becomes more stricter about his diet. His only daughter Rucha ( Rucha Apte) asks her boyfriend Omkar ( Sankarshan Karhade) who is a doctor, to visit her house and do the counseling part. But, some misunderstandings disturb Mr. Vilas more.
How, Mr. Vilas manages his diabetes and the fun filled interactions between Vilas and Madhavi, similarly between Vilas – Omkar and Vilas- Madhavi have been skillfully presented by director Chandrakant Kulkarni. He has exploited the best out of the lead pair Prashant Damle and Shubhangi Gokhale through all those humour filled situations, throughout the play.

Good support also comes from youngsters Sankarshan Karhade and Rucha Apte . However, it is Prashant Damle who steals the show, with his non stop comedy. His presence in the play from start to finish, has made this play more lively and entertaining. All his scenes with Shubhangi Gokhale receive good appreciation from the audience. Prashant not only receives a rousing welcome from his fans at his entry, but also receives ‘Once More’ applaud for his song in the last scene, which indicates his popularity, as a stage actor.

Pradeep Mulye‘s set design is good with good support coming from music director Ashok Patki. All in all, ‘Sakhar Khallela Manus‘ is a wonderful adult comedy, which should not be missed by Marathi drama lovers.

Hardik Joshi, ‘Tujyat Jeev Rangala’ Serial

Many Marathi actors after becoming popular on small screen, have found roles on Big screen. And, the latest entry is that of ‘Tujhyat Jeev Rangala ‘ serial fame Hardik Joshi, who plays the title role of Rana in this serial. Hardik  Joshi has become so popular with this character that he has found place in the hearts of all those watching this hit serial on small screen.

Hardik  Joshi will be making his debut in Marathi cinema through forthcoming Marathi film of Parth Production, titled ‘Journey Premachi’. However, he will be seen in a negative role in this film. Along with him will be another popular actor on small screen Madhav Devchakke, who plays the role of Kanha. The other lead artistes in this film are, Abhishek Sethia and Kashmira Kulkarni. ‘Journey Premachi’ film will be directed by Amol Bhave , who has also written the dialogues of this film.

Sanskruti Kaladarpan Awards 2017

‘Sanskruti Kaladarpan( SKD) Gaurav Rajani‘ is getting ready to present their awards in different categories such as Marathi films, plays and serials for the year 2017. This will be their 17^th award function and this year, in Marathi plays section, seven plays have been shortlisted and their names are as follows:  Ekdant production’s ‘Sakhar Khallela Manus‘, Anamika Production’s ‘Code Mantra‘, Ved Production’s  ‘Ya Gojirvanya Gharaat‘, Avnish Production’s ‘Chhada‘, Jivhala Production’s ‘U Turn‘,  Suyog/Jhelu Production’s ‘Teen Payanchi Sharyat‘ & Ved Production’s ‘Ke Dil Abhi Bhara Nahin‘.

24 plays had taken part in the competition for SKD awards, from which these seven plays have been shortlisted. Ms. Kanchan Adhikari, Prajakta Kulkarni & Mr. Pramod Pawar were the judges, to shortlist the seven plays. The final round will be held at Yashwant Natyamandir between 8^th and 10^th April 2017. However, two of these seven plays, namely ‘U Turn‘ and ‘Teen Payanchi Sharyat‘ will not be shown during the final round, due to technical reasons. The plays during the final round will be presented at a concessional rates.

SKD founder Chandrashekhar Sandve and SKD president Archana Nevrekar have also announced that the names of 10 shortlisted Marathi films for the final competition, will be announced soon.

After attaining popularity through their TV serial ‘Pinjara’, Bhushan Pradhan and Sanskruti Balgude pair did a Marathi film  ‘Nivdung’ together. And now, both will be seen in lead roles through forthcoming Marathi film ‘Shivya’, which is all set to release on 21st April 2017.

Directed by Sakar Raut, the film deals with the subject, where a person who is in a habit of uttering bad words in his day to life, is suddenly required to stop uttering bad words. What will be his condition and how he will restrain himself from using bad words, is what the film’s story is about. According to the director, it will be an interesting subject, as we notice majority of people using bad words, in today’s lifestyle.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, Marathi movie ‘Daav‘

Bollywood artistes getting attracted to perform in Marathi films is not new now. Till now, many Bollywood personalities have appeared in Marathi films with variety of roles. And, the Marathi audience also welcomed them. Now, the latest addition being Guklshan Devaiah, who was seen in Bollywood films like ‘Shaitaan‘,’Ram Leela‘ and ‘Hunterr‘ .

Guklshan Devaiah who is from Mumbai, did speak few words in Marathi in the film ‘Hunterr‘, but according to him this was not enough. So, when he was offered Marathi film ‘Daav‘, he seriously learned Marathi language and today, he can speak this language with ease. Guklshan Devaiah is very excited about ‘Daav‘ Marathi film, as he very much liked the script. Produced by Tony D’souza, Nitin Upadhay & Amul Mohan,  ‘Daav‘ film is directed by Kanishk Verma. Now, it remains to be seen, how the Marathi audience would welcome his entry into Marathi.

Actor Sharad Kelkar in Marathi movie ‘Sangharsh Yatra’

The much awaited Marathi film ‘Sangharsh Yatra‘ , which was announced as a biopic on Late BJP leader Gopinath Munde, is finally releasing on 14^th April 2017. Directed by Sakar Raut and produced by Suryakant Baji, Sandeep Ghuge, Mukund Kulkarni & Raju Baji, the film was scheduled for release last year, but could not be released, for some technical reasons . However, now the Censors have given their clearance to this film.

But now, the release date has been confirmed by them. The film was in the news last year, as Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra CM has rendered a song in ‘Sangharsh Yatra‘ film, written by Mandar Cholkar on the music of Shrirang Urhekar. The story , screenplay and dialogues have been written by Viraj Mule and Vishal Gharge, while Sanish Jairaj has done the cinematography of this film, with editing by Anant Kamat.

In our Marathi film industry, during 60s and 70s , we have seen many films on women oriented subjects, where male folks were shown dominating the women. Later, in 80s and 90s, we saw women themselves harassing other women and now we are watching through television serials, we see the Saas-Bahu dramas. Now, combining all these different ways of harassments, producer Rajendra Ramchandra Aatol  and director Subhash Ghorpade thought of presenting a family social drama through their latest released Marathi film ‘Garbh’ with a tagline  ‘Kunkawache Astitva’.

In this film, we witness two parallel stories of two couples running simultaneously in the screenplay. One is that of Sanjay Kulkarni( Hemant Thatte)  owner of Kulkarni Group of Companies & his wife Rekha Kulkarni ( Vibhuti Patil Thakur) and the other is that of youngsters Rahul Mhatre (Sushant Shelar) and Kavita (Siya Patil). When Rahul a collegian, finds kavita , his girlfriend form his college, being harassed by her Uncle ( Anant Jog) beyond limits, he takes a quick decision to marry her and brings his newly wed wife to his house, to give a big surprise to his parents. But,   realising the situation, the parents welcome their daughter in law, with a big heart. Rahul works hard and also finds a job of an accountant in Kulkarni Group of Company and that’s how the new link between Mhatre and Kulkarni family is established.

When Rahul meets with an accident, his pregnant wife seeks help from Rahul’s Boss- Sanjay Kulkarni, for huge money required for her husband’s operation. Rekha Kulkarni initially stops her husband from offering help. But, realising her own problem of not conceiving a child for 10 years, finds a good opportunity to force Kavita to enter into a contract against offering her help. Kavita sings on blank stamp paper, which results in a big drama taking place in the second half of this film. In the meanwhile, we notice some dramatic happenings in the story, to show how two different women face the challenges in their lives in different ways. So, it’s all about selfishness v/s sacrifice drama in the film. But, finally, it’s happy end for the audience.

Talking about the performances, both Sushant Shelar and Siya Patil have given satisfying performances. They find good support from Nishigandha Wad, Vandana Waknis,Yatin karyekar, Anant Jog,  Pallavi Vaidya and others.

All in all, ‘Garbh’ presents a typical story of exploitation of a woman, which has two different shades. Those who love to watch social family films on such serious subjects, may like this film; but for others looking for pure entertainment, may not enjoy it. The film does have 2-3 songs for music lovers, but, they disturb the continuity of the story. Arun Kulkarni’s dialogues are just fine, but the screenplay should have been made more gripping. Arun Fasalkar’s photography is good and so is the background music by Amar Desai.

Seema Deo receiving award by senior Marathi actress Sulochana

Veteran Marathi film actress Seema Deo, was recently conferred with Zee Chitra Gaurav Lifetime Achievement award, for her contribution to Marathi film industry. The award was presented to her by senior Marathi actress Sulochana, in presence of film maker Jabbar Patel, her sons Ajinkya Deo and Abhinay Deo. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Seema Deo expressed her gratitude to the audience for appreciating all her films and thanked the organizers for considering her name for this prestigious award. “Receiving this award from Sulochana Didi was also something special.” she said.

It may be recalled that Seema Deo impressed her admirers through Marathi as well as Hindi films, with her acting performance. Her films like ‘Jagachya Pathivar’, ‘Molkarin’, ‘Pathlag’, ‘Vardakshina’, ‘Saraswatichandra’, & ‘Anand’ need a special mention.  She is still fit enough to perform and few years ago we saw her in 2010 film ‘Jetaa‘, when she displayed her acting skills, in presence of her husband. Her son Ajinkya Deo was also part of this film.

This year film ‘Sairat‘ bagged maximum Zee Chitra gaurav awards in different categories, including best film and direction. However, the best actor and best actress awards were bagged by Girish Kulkarni and Iravati Harshe for their performance in the films ‘Jaoo Dya Na Balasaheb’ and ‘Kasav’ respectively.

Swabhiman Shetkari Sanghatna founder Raju Shetty and M.P. Ramdas Aathavle, Marathi movie ‘Rashtra‘

In the recent past, Marathi films have made tremendous progress, with realistic subjects. This has encouraged many Bollywood personalities and Politicians to make special appearance in Marathi films. Some of them have also produced films. Now, two politicians from Maharashtra, namely Dalit leader and M.P. Ramdas Athavale and Swabhiman Shetkari Sanghatna founder Raju Shetty will also be seen forthcoming Marathi film ‘Rashtra‘, shooting of which was held recently, at Raigad fort.

Both the politicians will be playing their real life characters in ‘Rashtra‘ film, which is being directed by Inderpal Singh, who has also written the script of this film. The director has earlier directed some Punjabi films. The film’s story is about the fight against caste politics and injustice on common man. Now, it remains to be seen, how the portrayal of these two leaders in the film’s team, would help in inviting the attention of film lovers.

Actor Sanjay Mone, Marathi Movie ‘Shoor Aahmi Sardar’

We have seen veteran actor Sanjay Mone, performing variety of roles in his acting career. Originally a stage actor, Sanjay later found many roles in TV serials. Now, he is also seen in many Marathi films. Basically, known for his comedy, Sanjay is now being offered different types of roles. And, his latest role has been that of wanted terrorist Hafiz Saeed in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Shoor Aamhi Sardar‘, which is all set to release on 21^st April 2017.

The film ‘Shoor Aamhi Sardar‘ has been set on the backdrop of three youngsters coming together to fight terrorism. Written by Australia based Marathi writer Ganesh Loke, the film ‘Shoor Aamhi Sardar‘ is directed by Prakash Jadhav. In this film, Sanjay Mone has special make up to give him the look of a terrorist leader. Sanjay Mone was himself surprised to see his new look in the mirror and couldn’t believe that his new look resembled a terrorist leader. The film also stars Shantanu Moghe, Bharat Ganeshpure, Sayaji Shinde and writer Producer Ganesh Loke himself.

गणपती बाप्पा म्हणजे महाराष्ट्राचं लाडकं दैवत. कोणाला त्याच्या देवत्वाची प्रचिती येते तर कोणाला दिव्यत्वाची, दुष्टांच्या अहंकारचं निर्दालन देखील करतो. गणेशाची अशी कित्येक रूपं आपल्याला ह्या मालिकेत वेगवेगळ्या कथानकांच्या माध्यमातून पहायला मिळाली. आता लवकरच मोठ्या गणेशाचं कैलासावर आगमन होणार आहे. आगमनानंतर प्रेक्षकांना गणेशाच्या आयुष्यातील आणखी एक वेगळी बाजू बघायला मिळणार आहे, आणि ती म्हणजे गणेशाचं प्रापंचिक जीवन.

गणपतीच्या आयुष्यात रिद्धी आणि सिद्धीचं आगमन कसं होतं त्या दोघींचे स्वभाव कसे आहेत ? त्याचे गणपतीच्या आयुष्यावर कसे पडसाद उमटतील ? अन्नपूर्णा, आदिमाता म्हणजे पार्वती.. आता सासूबाईच्या नव्या भूमिकेत कशी वावरेल ? हे सगळे बघणे रंजक ठरणार आहे.

Singer Sukhwinder Singh in Marathi Film ‘Raja‘

Besides its good content, Marathi films have also received recognition for their pleasant songs. Singer Sukhwinder Singh, who has created a distinct image for himself in Hindi film industry with his style of singing, had a song picturized on him for a Marathi film in the past. And now, for the muhurat of the forthcoming Marathi film ‘Raja‘ he rendered a song celebrating the occasion with great enthusiasm. Made under the Banner of ‘Satyasai Multimedia Pvt. Ltd‘, the film is produced by Pravin Kakad and Co-produced by Naresh Sakhre.

On this occasion, Member of Parliament Dr. Pritam Munde, Dr. Ajinkya D.Y.Patil (Chairman D.Y.Patil Group), Pravin Darade (Secretary to the Chief Minister),  Additional Director General Surendra Pande, Dr. H. Khorakhiwala (Chairman Wockhardt Group), Additional Police Commissioner Pratap Dighavkar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ranjit Dhakne, Industrialist Gaurav Khade, Pravin Talreja and Dilip Patil, were present.

The wordings of the song rendered by Sukhwinder Singh are, ‘Raatbhar…. Gaavbhar….. Hovu De Bobhaata Jan Jan Janan Janan Vaajavu Jannaata‘. Sukhwinder Singh himself will be dancing to this number and the dance has been choreographed by Santosh Bhangre. The film ‘Raja‘  is based on the life of a pop singer. The story and the script is written by director Shashikant Deshpande, dialogues are by Milind Inamdar and Shashikant Deshpande. The songs, penned by Valay Mulgundh, are set to music by Pankaj Padghan. The star cast of the film comprises of Saurdeep Kumar, Swarada Joshi, Nishita Purandare, Sharad Ponkshe, Jaiwant Wadkar, Surekha Kudchi, Vineet Bonde and Pauras Deshpande have acted in this film. Rujuta Deshmukh in Marathi serial ‘Tu Majha Sangati‘

‘तू माझा सांगाती ‘ या मालिकेमध्ये आवलीची भूमिका करणे तसे आव्हानात्मक आहे. तुकाराम हे स्वभावाने अगदी साधे, विठोबाच्या भक्तीमध्ये स्वत:ला झोकून टाकलेले असे आणि अगदी त्याविरुध्द आवली… “आवली हि स्वभवाने स्पष्टव्यक्ती तसेच व्यवहारी अशी होती अश्याप्रकारची भूमिका निभावण हे खरच खूप आव्हानात्मक आहे पण मी या भूमिकेला पूर्णपणे न्याय देण्याचा प्रयत्न करणार आहे “, असे ऋजुता देशमुख म्हणाली. ऋजुता ‘सावर रे’ या मालिकेनंतर तब्बल तीन वर्षांनंतर छोट्या पडद्यावर पुन्हा येत आहे. त्यामुळे प्रेक्षकांना आपल्या लाडक्या ऋजुताला एका नव्या आणि वेगळ्याच भूमिकेत बघायला नक्कीच आवडेल यात शंका नाही.

Marathi Movie ‘Rairand‘

Till last year, besides managing his job, young Ashish Ningurkar worked as a freelance Journalist and was regularly seen at various press shows and film functions. This brought him closer to some of the film makers, who encouraged him to write lyrics for their films. But, that was not enough for Ashish Ningurkar. He even made some short films, with interesting subjects. Finally, he wrote a script of the film ‘Rairand‘, besides writing lyrics and playing an important role in it.

Soon, the shooting of the film ‘Rairand‘ began and now the film is being shown at various international film festivals. At the 4^th Noida International film fest, this film won the Special Excellence Award, while in Indian World Film Festival at Hyderabad the film bagged Special Festival mention Award. In the forthcoming Nashik International Film festival, this film has found its entry with ‘Official selection’ and on this happy occasion, the film released its promo officially on 23rd March 2017.

Produced by Suresh Shetty and directed by Ramesh Popat Nanaware, the film stars Anant Jog, Ranjit Kamble, Shyamkumar Shrivastav, Ashish Ningurkar, Karan Kadam, Anand Wagh, Ajit Pawar, Pravin Bhabal, Sunil Jain, Suresh Dabhade, Rekha Nirmal, Gorakh Pathare, Zakir Khan, Nana Shinde, Santosh Choradia and Anurag Ningurkar. Music of this film is by Vikas.

Actor Arun Nalawade and Atul Parchure, Marathi movie ‘Braveheart‘

A Narrator plays an important role in a film, especially if the film is based on a true story or a biopic. Many prominent actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Late Om Puri in Hindi and Sachin Khedekar in Marathi have played this role, while narrating the gist of the film, at the beginning of a film. Latest addition to this list is actor Atul Parchure. Atul Parchure has played a narrator for forthcoming Marathi film ‘Braveheart‘, which is a tragic true story of a youngster, who showed the way to live life till his last breath.

Produced by Sacchidanand Karkhanis and Santosh Mokashi and directed by Dasbabu , the film is an inspiring true story of Nikhil Karkhanis son of producer Sacchidanand Karkhanis, who fought against all the odds to fight his dangerous ailment, to live a life, so that every new day he saw , could be useful to others, by sharing his knowledge.

On Friday afternoon, the makers and artistes of this film ‘Braveheart‘ interacted with the press, when Marathi Movie World spoke to Atul Parchure, the narrator of this film. He was more than happy to speak about the film. ” I really admire the ‘Braveheart’ of producer Sacchidanand Karkhanis, to make a film on his departed son Nikhil’s brave fight to live a purposeful life, in spite of his serious spinal ailment; so that his story should inspire others. I was myself very much moved, when I was approached to be a narrator of this film. I am sure, this film would be appreciated by film lovers. Comedy should not be the only criteria of entertainment. The film’s gripping subject can also offer a good entertainment of keeping the audience engaged,” said Atul.

Among the artistes, present on the occasion were Arun Nalawade, (who plays the role of Nikhil’s father),  Sangram Samel ( who is making his debut in film) his wife actress Pallavi Patil, Ila Bhate, Abhay Kulkarni , producers Sacchidanand Karkhanis, Santosh Mokashi, director Dasbabu, lyricist Shrikant Bojewar and others. Acress Dhanashri Kadgaonkar could not make it, as she was busy shooting for her ongoing serial in Kolhapur. The film is all set for release on 7^th April 2017.

Amruta Subhash, Archit Deodhar, Sunil Barve, ‘Sahaa Gun’ Marathi movie

Three years ago we saw a sensible Marathi film Killa ( The Fort) directed by Avinash Arun. The film revolved around an 11-year-old child played by Archit Deodhar who faces a difficult time coping with the death of his father and transfer of his working Mother ( Amruta Subhash) to other place. The film was selected for the 64th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Crystal Bear by the Children’s Jury in the Generation Plus Selection.

Now, Amruta Subhash and Archit Deodhar are returning through another film ‘6 Guun’ , where they will be playing the roles of Mother and son respectively. The film is all set to release on 14^th April 2017. The poster of this film was launched on social media recently, clearly indicating that this film is set on the backdrop of education. The film also stars versatile actor Sunil Barve in lead role. Produced by Ujwala Gawde, the film is directed by debutant Kiran Gawde.
