Wonderful picturesque locations have always played an important role in presenting love stories on big screen. In Bollywood, Film maker Yash Chopra had paid more attention on this aspect. Today, our Marathi film makers are nowhere behind Hindi film industry, when it comes to selecting suitable locations for shooting of songs on the backdrop of love stories.

Recently, S.N Films Entertainment’s Lalchand Sharma and Sunita Sharma and director Raju Meshram picturised a song of their forthcoming Marathi film ‘Love Betting‘ in Kulu Manali and Solang valley located at the picturesque foothills of Himalayas surrounded by snow. The song was picturised on lead pair Chirag Patil and Kajal Sharma. Music of the film ‘Love Betting‘ is composed by Pravin Kunvar, while cinematography is by Aniket Khandagale

Presence of Bollywood personalities during the music or first look launch of Marathi films, has set a new trend. Recently, Producer director Mahesh Manjrekar unveiled the music and first look of his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Rubik’s Cube‘ in presence of his friend Salman Khan in Mumbai. On this occasion, Salman’s friend Yulia Vantoor presented a dance performance, which received good response from the invitees.

‘Rubik’s Cube‘ has been shot at picturesque locations of Europe covering places like Italy, Switzerland & Slovenia. The film stars Mrunmayee Deshpande, Gashmeer Mahajani, Surabhi Bhosale, Siddhant Mulye, Kiran Yadnyopavit, Sandeep Pathak, Mahesh Manjrekar and Medha Manjrekar. Music director Vishal Mishra is making his debut as music director through this film, which is Produced by Avinash Ahale .

Actor Sanjay Khapre

Actor Sanjay Khapre has played variety of roles in number of Marathi films, during the past few years. He has even played lead role in the film ‘Bharla Malwat Rakhtaana’. But, his roles in films like ‘ ‘Fakta Ladh Mhanaa’, ‘Dagadi Chawl’, ‘Disco Sanya’ were memorable. The negative characters played by him in these films also established him as a villain. Now, Sanjay has found one more such role in forthcoming Marathi film ‘Talaav’, which is slated for release on 10^th march 2017.

Sanjay is playing the cruel character of a villain  Dhananjay Patil in this film . Produced by Manohar Phondke and directed by  Jaibheem Kamble under the banner of SMV Films, the film also stars Saurabh Gokhale, Priyanka Raut. Music of this film is provided by Ashish Ambekar, with a popular song rendered by Nandesh Umap.

Vaibhav Tatwawdi and Tejashree Pradhan , Marathi serial ‘Prem He’ on Zee Yuva

Love has no barrier of language, caste or religion. It is just an emotion, around which the life of young lovers keeps revolving. From 27^th February every Monday and Tuesday at 9 pm prime time, starts a new serial on this subject suitably titled ‘Prem He’. But, this love story has rural backdrop, to show how love is expressed in this region.

The story of ‘Prem He‘ serial revolves around Sunil and Radhika played by lead pair Vaibbhav Tatwawdi and Tejashree Pradhan. The first story of this serial is ‘Ruperi Valut’ which also has a song with the same title blossoming their love. The story is written by Sachin Tadakhe and the direction is by Santosh Manjrekar. The music of this serial is by Nilesh Moharir, with Hrishikesh Ranade and Ketaki Mategaonkar rendering their voices for the title song.

When Lalan Sarang , Reema Lagoo and late Sulbha Deshpande were active with Marathi theatre, they had staged a play ‘Ashya Aamhi Doghi’, which had become hit because of its subject and performances by these three actresses. Now, going with the present trend of revival of old hit Marathi plays, ‘Ashya Aamhi Doghi’ play is also being revived by Producer Namita Girkar under her Prachiti Productions and will be staged 8^th March 2017, with its inaugural show.

The play ‘Ashya Aamhi Doghi’ is being directed by Prashant Girkar , who has in the past directed 2009 Marathi film ‘Ishyaa’, besides directing plays like ‘Kon Konasathi’,‘Chouda Eke Chouda’, TV serials like ‘Swami Samarth’, ‘Reshimgathi’ in Marathi and few serials in Hindi. His two films ‘Wanva’ & ‘Rafoochakkar’ are also due for release. Incidentally, through his ‘Curtain raiser Academy for Film & Theatre’ he has been training newcomers, to find opportunities in acting field.

There was a time, when Kolhapur used to be the most active centre of Marathi film production. But, after 80s Marathi film makers preferred the locations in and around Mumbai with the help of studios and bungalows located in Mumbai. However, some film makers still prefer Kolhapur and sea belt of Konkan as the backdrop of their films. Producer Uttam Chorade and director Jagadish Vatharkar have offered their latest film ‘Premaya Namah‘ on the backdrop of today’s well developed Kolhapur city and picturesque Gaganbawda.

So, we find a young man Prem( Devendra Chougule) , the only son from a wealthy family, falling in love with a girl Preeti ( Rupali Krishnarao), after he meets her outside a departmental stores. It’s a love at first sight. On this very first occasion, he helps her find her money purse snatched by a thief, but she casually thanks him. Prem happens to meet her again and again, but Preeti ignores him, thinking him to be a roadside romeo. Bythe way, there is a real road romeo and a gang leader also after her and Prem encounters him and his goons, showing his muscle power. Finally, Prem along with his mother( Surekha Kudchi) arrive few days in advance, to attend the wedding ceremony of his mother’s close friend’s daughter. Here he discovers that the girl getting married is Preeti.

Dejected, he decides to return home, but Preeti stops him and boldly suggests him to elope with her. Preeti’s parents hand over the responsibility of their daughter’s marriage to Prem. Now, in dilemma, Prem has his own plans . The conclusion of this love story is not predictable, which is the only surprise in the film. But, the rest of the happenings are in typical bollywood style of films during 60s and 70s. However, the chemistry between the lead pair doesn’t work well. There is a name sake villain and his character is not at all convincing in the plot. With such a theme, the film fails to create an impact on real film lovers, as it lacks proper presentation in the screenplay. The length of the film is also too long, stretching almost to 2 and half hours.

The hero Devendra who is shown a 20+ youngster in this film, isn’t very convincing, as he doesn’t look like a real young romantic hero. On many occasions he is shown imitating styles of Shahrukh Khan and does overacting in emotion filled long scenes. He is only good in action scenes, as an angry young man. However, the actress Rupali with her Marathi & Hindi television background, has impressed through her performance. Among others, Surekha Kudchi and Prakash Dhotre have offered good support, but the actor Bharat Daini in Villain’s role has failed to impress.

There are very few things worth appreciating in this film and they include good background music and decent cinematography which has captured outdoor locations and one underwater song picturisation very well. Even some action scenes with the help of special effects, have been shot well. All in all, ‘Premay Namah‘ can be described as just another love story in Marathi, on big screen.

Marathi film makers have been trying different experiments in the music department of their films. Till now, many Bollywood personalities have been associated either as singers or music directors of Marathi films. Now, 5G International’s Suspense filled Marathi film ‘Bhay‘ has also tried a different experiment to present Bollywood style music through their film. Directed by Rahul Bhatankar, this film is now all set to release on 24^th March 2017.

The team associated with songs and music of this film are, Shekhar Astitva, who has penned lyrics of Bollywood films like ‘Rockey handsome‘ & ‘Ishq Vishq’; Music directors Vikram Montroj makes his debut in Marathi along with Brijesh Shandilya, while Bollywood singers Tulika Upadhyay, Ali Aslam also make their debut as singers. Above all, Sameer Phatarphekar has given background music of ‘Bhay‘ film. Now, it remains to be seen, how the Marathi audience would respond to  ‘Bhay‘ film’s music.

Tannishtha Chatterjee at University in Marathi movie ‘Dr.Rakhmabai‘

We have all heard about the exploitation of women during the 18^th century. Forthcoming film ‘Dr.Rakhmabai‘ produced by Dr.Swapna Patkar and directed by Anant Mahadevan is all set to release. But, before that the film has been receiving good response at international film festivals.

The film has been selected for screening at the DFW South Asian Film Festival. The teaser of ‘Dr.Rakhmabai‘ film was released recently on social media site of this festival. The film has an inspiring story of a woman Rakhmabai of 18^th century from India, whose wish was to become a doctor. How she struggled in fulfilling her dream during those days, with the support of her father, has been shown in this film. Tannishtha Chatterjee plays the most challenging title role in ‘Dr.Rakhmabai‘  film.

Actor- Industrialist Amit Shingte saw a big dream in the city of Mumbai. Now, Yashraj Films have also approached this studio and many more like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar have inspected this studio for their requirements. Actress Ashwini Bhave and Actress Mukta Barve

On the occasion of International Women’s day, we at Marathi Movie World thought of reviewing the role of Woman in different departments of Marathi Entertainment. And, we observed that it’s woman power everywhere, be it Marathi stage, TV serials or films. They are in the forefront not only to entertain the audience but also prove their ability in different fields, such as acting, production, direction, costume designing, lyrics, music and so on.

If we start with the theatre section, today we find the female actresses inviting all the attention, while displaying their acting potential through various ongoing Marathi plays. To name a few, Mukta Barve in Code Mantra, Spruha Joshi in ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy‘, Leena Bhagwat in ‘Ke Dil Abhi Bhara Nahin‘ Reshma Ramchandra in ‘Chhada’ and so on.

Every serial has a negative character. Today, we see some of the women playing negative roles. So, it is a woman v/s Woman. But finally, it is always the win of pleasant over the evil. Title songs of almost all the serials have domination of female singers. Moreover, when we visit the sets, we find many women associated with production and technical work, which is highly appreciated.

Some of the actresses who have already proved their mettle through their respective characters in women oriented films and winning the awards and appreciation are, Ashwini Bhave, Urmila Kanitkar Kothare, Sai Tamhankar, Tejaswini Pandit, Mrunmayee Deshpande in the recent past. Manasi Naik, Siddhesh Pai, Johny Lever & others , ‘Mala Lagin Karaych‘ album

Nanubhai Jaisinghani of Video Palace recently released his new music album ‘Mala Lagin Karaych‘. During the launch of this album, the entire team of was present to witness the unique promotion, which comprised of a scene of Manasi’s wedding. In ‘Mala Lagin Karaych‘ album, Manasi Naik is joined by Bollywood’s King of comedy Johny Lever, ‘DID’ fame Siddhesh Pai and 12 dancers who have given a rocking performance.

The music by Swaroop Bhalwankar has Marathi and Western fusion in a rap style, which is produced, directed and choreographed by Siddhesh Pai. The song is rendered by Swaroop Bhalwankar and Adarsh Shinde. Cinematography by Kiran Gunjal, art direction by Pranay – Pritesh  and costumes by Dipesh Hingu  are the other credits. Right Side Actor Producer Ganesh Loke, Marathi movie Shoor Amhi Sardar

The fight against terrorism has always been the favourite subject of action filled Bollywood films in the recent past. But, in Marathi this subject hasn’t been tried much by new film makers. However, now Australia based Ganesh Loke has attempted a film on the backdrop of this subject lifting multiple responsibilities, such as writer, lead role, assistant director and producer in this film. Mr. Loke had earlier produced a Hindi film ‘Sarfaroshi‘ based on patriotism.

Made under the banner of Indo Aus production in association with Jhumka Films and Sasa productions, the film ‘Shoor Aamhi Sardar‘ is directed by Prakash Jadhav. Besides Ganesh Loke, the film also stars Sayaji Shinde, Bharat Ganeshpure, Sanjay Mone & Shantanu Moghe in prominent roles.  Speaking about this film, Mr. Loke said that film making was his passion and he only wanted to inspire young Indians , through such a timely subject in this film. The film ‘Shoor Aamhi Sardar‘ is all set to release on 21^st April 2017.

Marathi movie ‘Hirkani’

Actor- director Prasad Oak is back to direction. Combining with his writer friend Chinmay Mandlekar, he has announced the launch of his film ‘Hirkani’. This film is inspired by the story of brave mother called Hirkani, who had created a history with her adventure filled journey carrying her little child in her arms while coming down from Raigad fort during the dark night. With this film the duo of writer Chinmay and director Prasad will be working together after a long time, since they worked for their last film ‘Kachha Limbu’.

The story of ‘Hirkani’ film  is penned by well Known writer Pratap Gangavane, while the screenplay and dialogues are written by actor-writer Chinmay Mandlekar. Since this film is based on the incident in Maratha history, there is lot of curiosity, as to who will play the title role in this film. But, the makers of this film have decided to keep it a secret at present and the name of the actress is likely to be announced later.

In spite of stringent laws and implementation of social awareness programmes, we still find some cases on this issue coming to light in our country.  Now, Marathi film ‘Kanika’ will present a horror film on the backdrop of this timely and sensitive subject.  According to Pushkar Manohar, director of this film, the story of this film is a horror revenge drama with a different touch, presented for the first time in Marathi films.
