It is not an easy job to bind the people from different states and culture together, through an emotion filled film’s story. But, US based Marathi film maker Nitin Adsul has succeeded in doing so. Through his latest Marathi film  ‘Partu’,  made under the banner of his US based East West Films, Nitin has presented a true story of his father’s uncle, a farmer, by profession and living in Nagar district of Maharashtra. The period of this story has been set on the backdrop of rural areas of both in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, during the period 1968 to 1985.

Laxman( Kishore Kadam)  a farmer just managing to provide enough food to his family, with  farming, finds a little boy on the streets of a village in Nagar district. He provides shelter to this boy, along with his two children, much against the wish of his wife ( Smita Tambe) . The boy is actually from a village in Rajasthan ,who is lost at Ahmednagar Railway station  missing his uncle in the crowd. But, the name of the village pronounced by the boy, is not properly understood by Laxman and he calls it some other place. Even his name Prithvi, is understood by the farmer as Partu.  Laxman tries to locate the village with the help of village postman, but is unable to locate it.

So, Partu becomes a close member of the farmer’s family, having lived with them for 17 long years. Laxman also gets him married to his friend’s daughter ( Gayatri Soham). Later, when it’s time to go on a pilgrimage, the family happens to travel to Rajasthan also. It is here that Lakxman gets a message through a messenger of almighty, to move to a particular village in Rajasthan,  to fulfill his wish of  returning Partu, to his biological parents. With lots of hurdles, he finally reaches the destination, in the film’s climax. But, it is Partu, who takes his own decision in the end.

The film has been very well presented with proper planning, being a true story. At the end of the film, the director has not forgotten to show the audience, the real life people, on whom the film has been made. And, that is the best part of this film. There are very few flaws noticed in the film’s story; but this being a true story, they can be ignored.  There are many emotion filled scenes in the film and the versatile artistes like Kishore Kadam, Smita Tambe, Saurabh Gokhale and Gayatri Soham Deshmukh have given full justice to their respective roles in this film. For Saurbh Gokhale this is a good debut in films. He has done one face to face scene of confrontation with versatile actor Kishore Kadam very well. Anshuman Vichare in the role of a private vehicle driver, has generated some humour, in post interval session, in this otherwise touching emotion filled film.

Music is just apt for the film’s story and two songs have been picturised very well. One of them is picturised on the young couple and the other towards the end, depicting the Rajasthani culture. Good photography, excellent background music and perfect sound design are other plus points of this brilliant film.

The overall film is very appealing and touches the heart of the audience, because of its emotion filled screenplay. It also binds Maharashtra and Rajasthan in an emotive cord .

She has already won State award 2014 for best actress for her brilliant performance in the film ‘Kapuskondyachi  Goshta’.  At present she is performing in popular TV serial ‘Kamla’. And now, she will open with the first episode of DD- Sahyadri’s serial ‘Chitrakathi’ which is based on different stories and directed by Vaibhav Chinchalkar. MarathiMovieWorld.com  spoke to Sameedha Guru recently, to know about her new assignments  and she seemed to happy with her present progress.

Sameedha who had also won MarathiMovieWorld.com best actress award for her performance in the play ‘Get Well Soon’ last year, is an extremely talented actress.  No wonder, this actress, who has performed in many TV serials like ‘Avaghachi Sansar’, ‘Soniyacha Umbartha’,  ‘Ya Valnavar’, ‘Devyani’, ‘Tujhvin Sakhya Re’, ‘Gandha Phulancha Gela Sangun’ has been doing her best in ongoing serial ‘Kamla’. Recently, we also saw her in the film ‘Panhala’.  But, Sameedha deserves more challenging roles, in Marathi films, having won the state award for best actress last year. We understand that she is doing a big banner Marathi film,  starring Swapnil Joshi, with whom she has already worked on stage in ‘Get Well Soon’. And, we are sure, she would do her best.

Siddharth Chandekar, Sai Tamhankar, Sushant Shelar, Pallavi patil, Ankush Chaudhary, Sonalee Kulkarni, Sachit Patil, Suyash Tilak, Classmates Marathi Movie

Super hit film of the year, ‘Classmates’ was premiered on Colors channel, last Sunday. And, the manner in which it was presented, inserting the talk show amongst the team members, during the break, made it more interesting. It was nice to listen to the experience of  all the artistes, during the making of this film. More than that, the telecast of this film was also enjoyable, considering its suspense filled screenplay and wonderful performances of the artistes. They all, really made a very good team.

It looks like that Colors channel is also getting ready to present the premieres of few more new films. The next one being another hit film ‘Balkadu’.  But, we only hope that they don’t repeat these films every month, calling it second premiere or 3^rd premiere and so on. By the way, the new mythological serial ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ on this channel  is yet to pick up; as there are many new faces. So, let us wait for few more episodes. But, little Ganesh and Parvati are doing well.

However, things are really not going well with their other serial ‘Kamla’ and entertainment show ‘Aali lahar kela Kahar’. Instead,  the other serial like ‘Asa Saasar Surekh Bai’ and ‘Comedy chi Bullet train’ provide better entertainment. But, it’s high time, they replace their other serials with new subjects.

Now, talking about ‘Honar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’ on Zee Marathi, after the big drama taking place in Janhavi’s house, now the focus is on Pintya’s newly wed wife Sunita. And, Komal Khamkar, who is playing this role, is making her presence felt, with a confident looking performance. Komal, who otherwise speaks good Marathi, has cleverly learned this village style accent, especially for this role. She is a very good dancer too and we hope to see her perform it, in this serial too.

Marathi music channels do help to popularize the songs of all forthcoming Marathi films. At the same time, they also help the new artistes. One best example, is that of Film ‘Urfi’. The songs of this film promoted on music channels, has helped the newcomer Mitali Mayekar. More and more people, especially youngsters, who have become her fans, are visiting nearby theatres, to watch her performance in the film ‘Urfi’ released last Friday.

Producer Radha Bidkar and director Raju Meshram are making a film ‘Zari’, which is based on a real life incident. Recently the poster and teaser of this film was unveiled in presence of  dignitaries like Finance Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Sudhir Munguntiwar and other Ministers  of state, MLA’s  Neelam Gorhe and others , along with artistes from the film Anant Jog,  Milind Shinde, Tukaram Bidkar,  Nisha Parulekar, Namrata Gaikwad, & Aniket Kelkar. In the teaser of the film, it is only  Namrata Gaikwad, who clearly indicates that the film revolves around her character.

This film throws light on a very sensitive issue of exploitation of women in remote areas of Vidarbha region. The director of the film is confident that through this film, he will be able to invite the attention of administration, to provide necessary facilities to this region and pay attention, to protect the women folks in this region, from sexual abuse  by the local landlords. The film has also tried to show, how these poor people, revolt against the injustice on them. Now, we only hope that all these politicians, who were present for this function, also watch this film and take necessary steps, to stop these attrocities on women, in such regions.

Forthcoming Marathi film ‘Anuraag‘ which has been shot in Leh- Ladakh is due for release shortly. But, this film, which is presented by Mrunmayee Deshpande, was screened recently in London , at two different places of Maharashtra Mandal  over there and  Ham Boleyn  Cinema theatre . Mr. Nikhil Deshpande, Sunil Rapatwar , Pratik Shelar & Swapnil Kulkarni had organised the screening of this film at these three different places in London, in presence of actress and presenter of this film Mrunmayee Deshpande, Writer- director Dr.Ambrish Darak  and cinematographer Suresh Deshmane.

According to the reports received, the audience who saw this film have praised the subject of this film, which according to them, gives a different look to the relationship between husband and wife. For Mrunmayee, this is a big compliment, as besides acting in this film, she is also presenting this film. The makers of this film have also planned such screenings in Germany, in days to come. The film stars Mrunmayee Deshpande and Dharmendra Gohil in lead roles.

Ravi Jadhav is an Ad-man and commercial writer turned film director. He has written and directed several award winning TV commercials. Therefore, when Ravi Jadhav entered into feature film making  and later forming his own film company, we noticed the logo of his film company and logos of his films, very unique.

Now, we all know that Ravi Jadhav is presenting a new Marathi film ‘& Jara Hatke’, which itself has a unique title. Recently, logo of this film was unveiled and made public. And, it received a very good response from his well wishers and friends, who tweeted praising this logo. According to the film maker, the letter ‘&’ stands for binding two different things together, which in the film relates to two generations.

This ‘Hat ke’ film is written by Mitali Joshi and directed by Prakash Kunte, whose ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kaahi’ turned out to be a hit film of this year. Incidentally, this film was also presented by Ravi Jadhav along with others.  So, obviously, there are high  expectations from this film too.

‘Mr. & Mrs. Sadachari’ Moviestill

After the release of ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kaahi’ Vaibhav Tatwawdi is in great demand, in Hindi and Marathi film industry. Though his film ‘Shortcut’ released recently, did not do well, his well wishers and fans are eagerly waiting for the release of his film ‘Mr. & Mrs. Sadachari’, with with his ‘Coffee…’ actress Prarthana Behere. By the way, though there is no Marathi film releasing on 18th December 2015, you can find Vaibhav playing a very important role, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much talked about Hindi film ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Three more well known Marathi artistes are also part of this film.

But, Vaibhav is more keen about his film ‘Mr. & Mrs. Sadachari’, in which he is shown a great admirer of Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In the film, he has even drawn a tattoo of Shivaji Maharaj on his chest. This tattoo has been designed by Publicity designer of the film Sachin Gurav. People close to Vaibhav feel that this role will help Vaibhav to come out of his chocolate hero image. But, ‘Mr. & Mrs. Sadachari’ will face tough competition from many other Marathi films.It is expected that about a dozen of Marathi films, are expected to be released during January 2016.

Sonalee Kulkarni in ‘Poshter Girl’

Sameer Patil will be back again to entertain the Marathi audience. After directing  a successful hit film ‘Poshter Boyz’ last year, he is all set to release his next film ‘Poshter Girl’ starring Sonalee Kulkarni in the title role, on 12^th February 2016. Music director Amitraj has composed the music of this film, which offers a contemporary tale,  set on the backdrop of  a quaint village in Maharashtra.  Along with Sonalee, the film stars, Jitendra Joshi, Hrushikesh Joshi, Aniket  Vishwasrao and Siddharth Menon.

The film is produced  by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and therefore makes it a big banner film. Mr. Ajit Andhare – COO, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures has said, “Marathi Cinema is  finding greater appeal, with support from exhibitors and broadcasters. The Marathi audience has  always relished content led cinema. With our strong record in the Hindi and English segment , we would  like to make a mark in this very important segment of regional cinema.”

Director Sameer Patil has also expressed his satisfaction, as his film has been produced by a well-known established film production studio Viacom 18 & Chalo Film Banaye. “I am overjoyed and feel that my responsibility, in the true sense, gets bigger with this  opportunity.” he reacted.

Aapla Talkies, Marathi Movie Channel

We already have few TV channels like Zee Talkies & Maiboli , offering Marathi Movies round the clock. But now, there is addition of one more channel, to offer old classic and latest Marathi movies, 24×7 on Marathi television. At present, this channel is available on few service providers. But, it is expected to expand its network soon. Earlier, the name of this channel was different, but now, we understand that , they have finalized it as ‘Aapla Talkies’.

By the way, Zee Talkies will telecast world premiere of Marathi film ‘Carry On Maratha’ which was released just four months ago. And, that is a big news. But, Colors Marathi channel is also presenting TV World Premiere of another hit film ‘Balkadu’ coming Sunday i.e.13^th December 2015 at 12 noon and 7 pm. Incidentally, ‘Balkadu’ was also released early this year. So, henceforth one thing is clear that the home viewers will get to see new Marathi films, within 4 to 10 months from their release date. However, home viewers are more keen to see some award winning films, instead of commercial films. Best example was that of ‘Zing Chik Zing’ which was recently shown on Maiboli channel.

Now days, there is lot of importance given to marriage ceremonies in TV serials. We have seen this happen in many TV serials in the recent past. Now, ‘Nanda Saukhyabhare’ on Zee Marathi, is getting ready to show the marriage of Neel and Swanandi , in a two hour long episode on coming Sunday. There is another marriage of Ishaan & Gauri also on the cards, in another TV serial ‘Tumcha Aamcha Same Asata’ non Star Pravah. And, how can we forget the most awaited marriage between Yash and Jui in ‘Asa Saasar Surekh Bai’ on Colors Marathi ? One thing is sure that both these marriages are sure to take place, as per the traditional practice followed by our serial makers. Now, how long they will take, depends upon the patience of the viewers.

The two Marathi serials, i.e. ‘Runji’ on Star Pravah and ‘Kamla’ on Colors channel, which started off well, are now tasting the patience of the viewers, with such events taking place , which are not at all convincing. Instead of watching such serials, it is better to watch some new subjects on social issues, presented by Doordarshan Sahyadri channel.

Zee Marathi are getting  ready to introduce another love story, through their forthcoming serial ‘Pasant Aahe Mulgi’. However, which serial it will replace, is not known yet. Actually,  it’s high time ‘Honar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’ says Good Bye, after the delivery of Janhavi. But, we will have to wait and see, whether this will happen.

At a time when our Marathi cinema is presenting ‘out of the box’  themes  and inviting the attention of the audience all over the world, some Marathi film makers still believe in offering the traditional comedy formula, with the sole intention of entertaining  the audience.  If you look  at Chiranjeevi’s Telugu comedy films, Prashant Damle‘s popular Marathi play ‘Gela Madhav Kunikade‘,  Makarand Anaspure‘s  film ‘Teen Baika Fajiti Aika’ or recently released Kapil Sharma’s film ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’, there was one thing very common.  The comedy of errors, arising out of  a situation, where a  man having two wives and misunderstandings created through the screenplay,  with the progress of the story. So, what’s  new director Vijay Patkar , writer Hemant Edlabadkar and producer Ganesh Hazare have offered through their latest Marathi film ‘Carry On Deshpande’?

The story of ‘Carry on Deshpande’ revolves around Mr. Deshpande (Pushkar Shrotri)  a wealthy  man living in a huge bungalow, with his two wives, Prathama (Seema Kadam) and Dwitiya (Hemlata Bane) . Surprisingly, these two wives have no issues between them; but they are suspicious about their husband flirting with  other girls. So, we see the arrival of a detective (Sagar Karande) , who     tries to help  Mr. Deshpande as well as his two wives.  So, after the arrival of another young woman (Manasi Naik) in the bungalow, we see all such happenings,  we noticed  in many  films of  the past, on this subject. If this is not enough, the story of this film, also find place for two more characters, Sunny, the brother in law of Deshpande, who lives with him  and his niece , who are already in love with each other.

‘Carry On Deshpande’ Moviestill – Manasi Naik, Pushkar Shrotri, Hemlata Bane

The film’s length is about one hour forty five minutes; but due to lack of proper presentation of screenplay, even this is felt too long. Only good things  about the film are the performances of Pushkar Shrotri and Sanjay Khapre, who have tried their best to entertain the audience, with their spontaneity , at different situations. The  females namely Seema Kadam, Hemlata bane & Sneha Gore don’t have to do much with the acting, except for looking glamorous; but Manasi Naik certainly invites all the attention, displaying her acting skills, in all those comedy sequences to her share.  She  almost  poses the leading lady of this film.

Talking about the other areas, music of the film is not at all impressive; but, Shabir Naik’s cinematography is good. Though there very few locations, besides the bungalow, used for shooting, he has tried to capture the expressions of the artistes very well. The film was shown to the media people, without censor certification; but now it is understood that it has been allotted ‘A’ certificate ( Source: Book My Show dot com) .

Anyway, ‘Carry On Deshpande’ is  just a traditional formula type of comedy  film, which can be enjoyed by those, who love to watch such subjects especially, ‘How a man handles his two wives and a girlfriend’.  Isn’t that an outdated subject now ? There is nothing wrong in presenting a traditional comedy for a change, as one can understand the hard work put in by the makers, in making of such films; but, the screenplay and dialogues should appeal to all, besides good performances.

Maharashtra Cultural Minister Mr. Vinod Tawde will inaugurate the 14th Third Eye Asian Film Festival at 7 pm on 24th December 2015, at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. This festival will go on for a week between 24th and 31st December 2015,.

On the inaugural day, in presence of the Hon. Minister, well known film maker Shyam Benegal will felicitate renowned actress Waheeda Rehman. This year, during the festival, well known film maker Satyajit Ray will be remembered, on completion of 60 years of his film ‘Pather Panchali’ .

Veteran Marathi actor Mr. Mohan Agashe will also receive the honours, for his performance in the film ‘Astu’. Along with him , Mr. Dilip Bapat, an activist from Baburao Painter Film Society, Kolhapur , will be felicitated by Satyajit Ray Memorial award . Registration for this week long film festival begins from 14th December 2015, at Ravindra Natya Mandir , between 2 pm and 8 pm.

Theatre in Mumbai

Late Sanjay Surkar’s last directed film ‘Laathi’ had announced its release in about fifty screens in Mumbai and surrounding areas from today, i.e. 11^th December 2015. But, the film could not be released today at Plaza Cinema, Dadar, where  the show of this film was scheduled at 3.30 pm. As a result of this, those who had come to see the film at this venue, preferred to watch ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai-2′ for the second time, instead of returning home disappointed. MarathiMovieWorld.com correspondent , who had gone to see this film, noticed this scene at Plaza cinema ticket window.

It may be recalled that the makers of ‘Lathi’ neither had  any press show for the media people, nor did they promote the film, in spite of having many big artistes like Sachin Khedekar &  Subodh Bhave in this film.

Actually, this friday, there were three films to be released simultaneously. Out of which ‘Sangharsha Yatra’ backed out, postponing its release. But, ‘Laathi’ kept on is using daily ads in newspapers, about its release this friday. There was no clear indication, as to why the film’s show was cancelled. While the booking clerk at the ticket window stated that the film will be released on Saturday, the door keeper standing near the window, stated that there was no guarantee of the film’s release, even next day. We had heard about cancellation of a film’s show on the first day, for the reason of non arrival of print or non availability of  audience; but the release of a film on Saturday, instead of Friday,  is  a news to  film industry.

Whatever may be the reason,  but the audience who had gone to see this film at different venues on the first day, must have been surely disappointed, as this was the last film of creative director Late Sanjay Surkar and the new producers had released this film, perhaps to pay tributes to the film maker of sensible Marathi films in the past.  However, at Plaza Cinema, the  makers of ‘Mumbai Pune Mumbai-2′  should thank the makers of ‘Lathi’ for the cancellation of their show, on the first day.

Family 420 Muhurt – Subhod Nagdeve, Rakesh Roshan, Rajesh Sharma, Vaishali Made, Santosh Gaikwad & Sushil Pendhare

Producer Dev Raj and director Santosh Gaikwad have launched their film ‘Family 420′ with muhurat performed in presence of Bollywood film maker Rakesh Roshan & President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal President Vijay Patkar.  Audio of the songs recorded for the film were played on this occasion at A.B. Studios, Andheri.

The makers of this film have promised total entertainment through this film. The film stars popular artistes like Vijay Patkar, Vijay Kadam, Bhushan Kadoo, Sunil Pal, Harshada Patil & Sukanya Kulkarni . Other artistes and technicians will be finalized soon, after which the shooting of the film will begin sometime in January 2016. Well Known singers like Avadhoot Gupte, Bela Shende, Sudesh Bhosale, Vaishali made have rendered their voices for the songs in this film on the music of Sushil Pendhar.

Mrunmayee Deshpande is a talented actress, who is keen on establishing herself among the top actresses in Marathi Film industry. Unfortunately, in spite of her good performance, none of her films during the past 3 years were able to make it big at the box office.
