Whenever an event is organised to offer scope to new talents, it always receives a very good response. And, it is through such events, talented artistes, directors and writers are created, as it gives them a perfect platform to prove their ability. ‘MANACHI‘, which is a short form of Malika( Serials), Natak( Drama) and Chitrapat ( Films), is a group of writers, who had earlier conducted a competition for writers. But, now for the first time, they had conducted the One Act Play competition.

This competition, which received support from Akhil Bharatiya Chitrapat Mahamandal and P.L.Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, made a very good beginning. The subjects for these one act plays were provided by celebrities from different fields . From among 27 subjects presented , only seven plays have been shortlisted, for the final round, which is to be held at Yashwant Natyamandir , Matunga, on 26th December 2015.

Actors in Selfi Mood: Siddharth Jadhav, Manva Naik, Aditi Bhagwat, Bharat Jadhav, Makarand Anaspure, Jitendra Joshi

The occasion was unveiling the first look of ‘Shasan’, Gajendra Ahire’s forthcoming film on Maharashtra’s political situation. But, the director was no where to be seen. Producer Shekhar Pathak, who is from the stage background, who was present at the function, was the first to appear on the dais, to speak about the film and the artistes. And, he almost narrated the details of all the characters played by six prominent artistes; namely Bharat Jadhav, Makarand Anaspure, Siddharth Jadhav, Jitendra Joshi, Manva Naik & Aditi Bhagwat, who were present during this event.

Though each one of them, praised the dynamic director and his ability to present films on social subjects; Jitendra Joshi was all praise for actor Kiran karmarkar, who is also part of this film; and could not attend the function due to his shooting commitments. “Kiran has limited role in this film; but in every scene, he has been part of; he has given excellent performance,” he said.

There are many senior artistes, part of this film, in small but important roles. They are Dr.Shreeram Lagoo, Vikram Gokhale, Sudhir Dalvi, Mohan Joshi, Late Vinay Apte, Nagesh Bhosale, Vrunda Gajendra & Amey Dhare. All the artistes in the film will be seen playing different characters in the film, connected with the present political scenario in the state. Music of this film has been composed by Narendra Bhide and the film will be released on 15th January 2016.

A former Air Hostess, Reena Valsangkar, came into acting profession by chance. Being a good dancer, Reena was offered a role of Kamla in the second lead, by Nitin Desai, in his film ‘Ajintha’ later, in the same year 2012 she performed a prominent role of a lady police officer along with Aamir Khan in the film ‘Talash’. She has also performed on Marathi stage, in Avinash Kharshikar’s play ‘Majhi Baiko Majhi Mehuni’.

Today, Reena is a much sought after actress on Hindi television. She is playing the important character of Dr. Aarti Mestri in detective TV serial Agent Raghav, which has Sharad Kelkar in the lead role. Besides this serial, she also performing in Anup Jalota & Sanjana Thakur’s musical drama ‘Krishnapriya’. Now, Reena Valsangkar Agarwal, she is trying to balance very well, between Marathi and Hindi projects, being a professional actress. Good thing about her is that she is eager to work in Marathi, provided there are good offers.

Filmmaker Samruddh Porey

After receiving overwhelming response for her Marathi film ‘Dr.Prakash Baba Amte- The real hero’, the biopic on social worker and Magsaysay Award winner from Maharashtra, filmmaker Samruddhi Porey  shot  the hindi version of this film titled ‘Hemalkasa’, with the same lead pair of Nana Patekar and Sonali Kulkarni.  And, the good news is that this film has entered the final round of Oscars competition.

It may be recalled that when ‘Court’ was India’s official entry for the foreign language category, ‘Hemalkasa’ was admitted in the open category, along with three more regional language films, namely ‘Nachomiya Kum Pasar( Konkani), ‘Jalam( Malyalam) & ‘Rangi Tarang( Kannada). And, now the news has reached us that ‘Hemalkasa’ is the only film Indian film which has been admitted in the final round for the 88^th Academy awards. This will make the film eligible for the competition to receive nomination in the best film, best actor and best actress category.

But, all this was possible because of the hard work put in by Samruddhi Porey in Los Angeles , for the past 3- 4 months, going through all the stages of formalities to show the film to the members of Jury. Now, all eyes on this film, to see,
whether it receives nominations in the three categories mentioned above, when the final list will be declared on 14^th January 2016.

Topping the list is veteran actor and film maker Mahesh Manjrekar, who will be seen in the role of King Shahu Maharaj. Among others, who are also playing prominent roles are Vaibhav Tatvawdi, who will be seen as Chimaji Appa, the brother of Bajirao, while Anuja Sathe-Gokale & Sukhada Khandkekar will be seen as Bajirao’s two sisters Bhiubai & Anubai respectively.

The other Marathi artistes, who are also playing important roles in this film are, Ganesh Yadav, Yatin Karyekar & Tanvi Azmi. And, this is not enough, as the list does not end here. Cast And Crew Of Bandh Nylon Che

Music release of a Marathi film, is considered to be a very important event, for film’s promotion. Till now, not many were aware of this Marathi film ‘Bandh Nylon Che’; but, with the grand launch of music of  film ‘Bandh Nylon Che‘, the only three songs in ‘Bandh Nylon Che’ are likely to popularize, besides the strong star cast of  ‘Bandh Nylon Che’. Highlight of this film is that the film is produced by Sunil Chandrika Nair, who has produced three Malyalam films, so far. This is his debut Marathi film, as a producer. Moreover, the director of  ‘Bandh Nylon Che’  Jatin Wagle is the son of Satish Wagle, the man behind producing Bollywood films like ‘Pyar Hi Pyar’ and ‘Namak Haram’.

On this occasion, director Jatin himself introduced all the artistes and technical people from his film, including music director Amitraj, lyricists Mandar Cholkar , Sachin Pathak ( YOYO), singers Avadhoot Gupte, Adarsh Shinde and debutant singer Aditya Patekar. And, all three of them performed live, singing the three songs from ‘Bandh Nylon Che’. All the important artistes in the film, namely, Mahesh Manjrekar, Medha Manjrekar, Sunil Barve, Shruti Marathe & little Pranjal Parab were called on the dais and asked to speak a few words, about their roles. Subodh Bhave arrived very late, almost after the function was over. Surprisingly, both Mahesh and Medha are playing double role in this film and the story of  ‘Bandh Nylon Che’ relates to today’s lifestyle and its effect on the relationship between two generations.

Sanjay Narvekar is also in a guest appearance in the film, performing an important role. He too could not make it for the function, because of his birthday. But, the main attraction of the function was its music, which entertained the audience.

Only two days ago the makers of Marathi film ‘Mohar’ had announced that their film would be released on Christmas day, i.e. 25th December 2015. But, immediately the following day, they decided against it. In fact, 25th December was a good day for their film’s release, as it was a bank holiday and no other film is releasing that day. Even last Friday, there was no Marathi film released. But, as noticed in the recent past, our Marathi film makers, instead prefer to compete with other Marathi films. Much awaited Marathi film ‘Natasamrat’ has already announced its grand release on 1st January 2016. So, it remains to be seen, what are the chances of this film, to invite crowds at ticket windows. Surprisingly, makers of  ‘Mohar’ haven’t done much of promotion, prior to its release. But, may be , they would like to focus on the few days left now, prior to its release.

Anyway, the film highlights a social issue and stars Prasad Oak, Aditi Sarangdhar , Sayaji Shinde, Vijay Arjun, Hemalata Bane, Vijay kadam & Manasi Naik. Choreography by Deepali Vichare, music by Milind More and camera work by Raja Phadtare are other credits . Made under the banner of V.G.Enterprises, by producers Chandrakant Pawar & Gautam Satdive, the film is directed by Vijay Patkar.

Though she has been able to gain popularity as an actress on small screen, Shruti Marathe is still trying hard to establish herself as a lead actress, in Marathi films. After the success of ‘Dagadi Chawl‘, Ankush Choudhary has become the new style icon of Marathi film industry. Now, he looks more confident of shouldering the responsibility of a film, as a solo hero. And, to begin the new year, he has a suitable role to play in his forthcoming Marathi film ‘Guru’, directed by Sanjay Jadhav and produced by Eros International, Dreaming Twenty Four Seven and Bagpiper Soda.

No wonder, we have seen the commercial ads of Bagpiper Soda, presenting Ankush Choudhary along with his leading lady Urmila Kanitkar Kothare and actor Sayaji Shinde. The makers of this film, unveiled the special poster designed by Publicity designer Sachin Gurav and also the first look of ‘Guru’ presenting a song picturised on Ankush, displaying different styles of sunglasses, while singing, dancing and fighting, on the music of Amitraj. Singer Adarsh Shinde has rendered the voice for him, with lyrics by Sachin Pathak.

Sometimes a sensational news happens next door. But, people don’t take such news seriously, unless such news affects their own family. ‘9 Star Entertainment’ through their forthcoming Marathi film ‘702 Dixits’ , have picked one such news story and developed it in a different way, to give a cinematic form, to make it a mystery filled thriller. Not many films are made on such subjects in Marathi and therefore, ‘702 Dixits’ has certainly raised the hopes of the regular Marathi viewers, towards this film. And, the manner in which the film has been presented, was evident from the impressive first look of the film, unveiled on Tuesday evening along with music release of this film.

Films of such type do not have many songs and hence going with the tradition of suspense films, producers Rohit Jail, Prashant Umbrani and director Shankh Rajadhyaksha have kept only three songs in this film, on the music of Shubhankar. But, background music plays important part in this film. According to director Shankh Rajadhyaksha, ( well known editor, having edited Mrunal Kulkarni’s film ‘Prem Mhanje Prem Asata’) he has given more importance to selection of artistes suited to the characters, as he wanted to present a realistic film. So, the film which is a thriller, filled with suspense, will unveil the mystery on 15th January 2016.

The film stars Gauri Nigudkar the Hindi TV actress, along with Pallavi Patil( ‘Classmates’ fame), Vijay Aandalkar( ‘Dhol Tashe’ fame), Shrirang Deshmukh, Ruchi Jail, Jaywant Wadkar & Vikram Gokhale. On this occasion, singer Nimisha Deb rendered few lines of the song from this film.

Gauri Nigudkar, Actress

Eleven years ago, as a teenager, she performed in national award winning Marathi film ‘Uttarayan’. Surprisingly, she played the young Neena Kulkarni’s role in this film; while Sharad Kelkar, who played young  Shivaji Satam in this film, was her hero in few scenes in the flashback of this film. Gauri later completed her masters’ degree in science and got busy with offers from Hindi television. Two years ago, she did a film ‘Sanshaykallol’ opposite today’s leading Marathi hero Ankush Choudhari and had made her intentions clear that she would do Marathi films, provided there was a good role.

In between Gauri got married; but had not said ‘no’ to acting. Last year, when director Shankh Rajadhyaksha had an offer to direct a suspense filled thriller, inspired by a true story, he only thought of Gauri, to play the lead role of Kavya Dixit . And, Gauri immediately said ‘yes’ to this offer, after hearing the story of this film. The film suitably titled ‘702 Dixits’ is now ready for release and Gauri is eagerly waiting for the film’s release, scheduled for 15^th January 2016.

The return of Gauri to Marathi cinema, is at the most appropriate time, when Marathi cinema is going for a  big change, with ‘out of the box’ scripts, attempted by new film makers. The maker of ‘702 Dixits’, Shankh Rajadhyaksha is from editing field and this being his debut film, as a director, he seems to have worked very hard, in presenting this interesting story, so as to keep the audience engaged to their seats for 2 hours. Even Gauri feels that the director has done an excellent job. If this film does good business, it will certainly benefit Gauri to find still better roles in Marathi. She already has a big fan following, as a TV actress on Hindi television.

Children’s Theatre workshop – ‘Chala Kheluya Natak’

Theatre of Relevance – Children’s Theatre will be conducting a workshop  ‘Chala Kheluya Natak’ for the  children , in the age group of 6 and 15 years, in Navi Mumbai, from 28^th to 31^st December 2015. Last month, they had conducted, one such workshop successfully at Dombivali. The training in this workshop will enable the children to develop their natural skills in acting. This will comprise of  Removing stage fear, introduction to acting, actual performance in a play, Voice modulation, personality development, dance, writing  and direction.

This workshop will be conducted by International Theatre artist Ashwini Nandedkar, her associate Sayali Pawaskar and ‘Honar Suun Mi Hya Gharchi’ TV serial fame Komal Khamkar. He has not only performed in this film; but has produced and directed it.

Through ‘Athang’, Milind has presented the story of a talented orphan girl Shilpa and her struggle in life. One fine day, she gets a Rose in gift and her life changes. Actually, this is a complicated tale; but Milind claims that he has tried to give justice to this story. The main artistes  in the film are, Tanvi Hegde, Smita Shewale, Milind Gavali, Amit Dolawat, Pooja Nayak, Bhooshan Ghadi, Mouisami hadkar, Shital Gaikwad & child artiste Karishma Patade.

Lalit Prabhakar the popular hero of small screen and Neha Mahajan the new sensation in Marathi films, are coming together for the first time. But, this is not for a film or a serial. They will be playing the host for Zee Talkies channel’s new programme ‘Talkies Light House’, which will be aired from Sunday 10^th January 2016 at 4.30 pm. The repeat telecast of this programme can be seen following Saturday at10 am in the morning.

Through this programme, short films of well known filmmakers will be shown, with briefing about the making of the film, besides taking the viewers to the actual location, where the film’s story  originates. So, it will be interesting to watch, how the chemistry of these two young hosts works, in the role of anchors.

Today, everybody, especially  the viewers spread across small towns, is talking about the big game of ‘Saripaat ‘ to be played between Mhalsa and Banai( Banu), in the popular Zee Marathi TV serial ‘Jai Malhar’. While some women folks feel that Mhalsa is being cheated, while others feel that it is the only way, Banu can get justice. Anyway, the game of ‘Saripaat’ is not new to small screen lovers. As, we saw it in popular TV serial ‘Mahabharat’ about 29 years ago, when Pandavas lost everything in their possession, including Draupadi, in this gamble.

But, we now hear that the game of ‘Saripaat’ has popularized in small towns and villages in Maharashtra, where people have started playing this game as a competitive game, like Chess, carom  or scrabble. But, it will not be surprising to see the popularity of this game spreading across the state soon, if someone really introduces the kit of this game, as a part time sport. Only care is to be taken that it is not used for gambling purpose.

Anjali Abhyankar, Mohammed Chacha, Sukanya Kulkarni-Mone, Ashadevi Abhyankar, Sanika Abhyankar

Well Known Marathi stage ,TV and Film actor Anand Abhyankar is no more. 3 years ago he died in a road accident, on Mumbai Pune Expressway on 23^rd December 2012, while returning from shooting in Pune. Now, his family members remember  him, every year, by hosting an event titled ‘AnandRang’  in his memory, to felicitate  a technician or a worker from our Marathi film industry.

This year being the third anniversary, the beneficiary of the award was Mohammed Chacha, who has served this industry for more than forty years, doing multiple services, such as Spot Boy, Tea boy and other miscellaneous duties. He also suggested home remedies for different ailments. Mohammed Chacha has been associated with film maker  Sanjay Jadhav’s unit for the past several years. On Sunday 26^th December 2015, the award was presented to him at the hands of actress Sukanya Kulkarni-Mone, in presence of Anand’s mother Ashadevi,wife Anjali and daughter Sanika. Few celebrities like Sharad Ponkshe, Ashwini Ekbote and others were also present at the event.

Anand always encouraged the people behind the screen, behind the stage and on the sets, who put in hard work in making the play, serial and film a success. Mohammed Chacha is also one of them. While speaking on the occasion, he recalled his experience with Mr. Abhyankar and praised him for his terrific sense of humour.

During his acting career, Mr. Abhyankar had performed variety of roles on stage, television and films. His performance in comedy show ‘Fu Bai Fu’ and his portrayal of head of the family Dinanath Shastri in TVserial ‘Asambhav’ are still fresh in the memory of home viewers.

Colors Marathi channel are all set to begin their new Marathi serial ‘Saraswati‘ from Today, Monday 28th December 2015. This new serial will be aired from Monday to Saturday at 7 pm. Two actors namely Sangram Salvi and Astad kale who were seen on Star Pravah’s serials ‘Devyani’ and ‘Pudhcha Paul’ respectively, will be playing important roles of two brothers in this serial.

Produced by Media Monks Entertainment Pvt Ltd; and directed by Mangesh Kanthale, this serial introduces a fresh face Titeeksha Tawde in the title role. The serial also stars Madhav Deochakke in an important role, along with talented Amruta Sant and versatile artistes like Surekha Talwalkar & Shekhar Phadke. Dr. Mohan Agashe felicitated at Third Eye Asian Film Fest

We are all aware that the 14th Third eye Asian Film Festival is in progress. On Tuesday evening the Asian Film Foundation & P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy jointly felicitated veteran actor Dr.Mohan Agashe , for his performance in the film ‘Astu’. It may be recalled that Dr. Agashe had recently won the Filmfare award, for his performance in the same film. Even otherwise, ‘Astu’ had won many popular awards in the recent past.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Agashe said that those who studied the language of cinema in depth, are able to understand language of this media very well. On this occasion Mr. Dilip Bapat from Baburao Painter Film Society, Kolhapur was also conferred upon an award in memory of late Satyajit Ray. Mr. Bapat was overwhelmed with this gesture from the hosts. He announced that he was dedicating his award to his wife and close associates.
